It has been pointed out that I was not welcome at the 968 celebration
as I do not currently own a 968. That being said here is a cross post of my appolgy.

968owner (sorry I did not get your name),
After reading your post and giviing it some thought, I think you are right.
First I would like to appologize to you, and all the other 968 owners for showing up. This was selfish and self centered for me to show up. I should have (in retrospect) parked my car out of sight from the festivities.
I'm truley sorry for offending you all the other fine folks at this great event. Next year I can assure you, I will just stop by and say hi during the swap meet.

Again my deepest appologies to the 968 community.

Friends are friends - I don't pick based upon the car you drive. It would seem, based upon your large number of posts, that you have mine been a friend of the community, for a rather long while. I am sure that the overwhelming majority would have considered you welcome. Like the Masters - win once and you can play for life.

It does disturb me greatly that you should feel the need to apologize for showing up at the 968 celebration. The fact that you don't currently own a 968 doesn't in any way diminish your contributions to the organization. I don't believe in exclusion, never have, and I don't support it. I may be speaking out of turn for the West Coast contingent, but as far as I am concerned, you are welcome here anytime, regardless of what you drive.

If there comes a time when I no longer own a 968. I'd like to think that I would be welcome at the Paso Robles wine run.

NEWS ALERT! THIS JUST IN! In a stunning shocker, it has been revealed that most of the part numbers for our 968's begin like this..... 944. !


I realize that there are "rules", both written and those passed down from the Porsche tribal elders, the keepers of the flame. But if I had been there, I would have gladly moved my car over to make room for your turbo. Your contributions and friendship to the 968 community go way beyond whatever car you are driving.

So, once again, apology NOT ACCEPTED!

Pat, I echo Chris's sentiments on the topic - maybe he does speak for more than one west coaster.. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img] .
Yes, introducing another car , whether a 944, or a 911, a Boxster, etc , in a 968 photo-shoot, or a 968 specific fun run is out of scope and ( understandably ) would not be embraced by most 968 owners, showing up and taking part in the greater celebration is another thing alltogether and IMO, perfectly aligned with what Kim said : " win once and you play for life " .
Thus, you should always be a welcome part of the 968 community. I would like to think the bonds formed among 968 owners have gone beyond the ownership of the car and will last regardless of what any or all of us we may end up driving in the future..

I just got home so I hadn't seen this...REALLY?

First of all, it has always been that once a 968er, always a 968er. As far as I know, there was one picture taken with Pat's car in it. Pat drove behind me in the line up to the Swap meet (so I was the last 968 in line) and he parked elsewhere.

Flash came to Hershey 2 years ago and drove Michelle's Boxster (and stayed out of the pictures) and Jerry Campagna has attended a few events in his 911. All have been welcomed with open arms.

Don't sweat the small stuff Patrick, you will always welcome with or with out a 968, moreso than some in the community that do.

It sucks that this was at the top of my "view new posts". I want to hear about how much fun everyone had...we had a blast.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for the kind words of encouragement and support.
It's amazing how many PM's and few phone calls I've all ready received.

My reason for the appology is, according to the tone of his (or her) post was he was not the only who felt this way.
It would have been nice had the poster gave his name. Also seems a little strange how the poster thanked everyone but Bob and Pete. I'm sure the poster had some wine and cheese as did everyone.
I wander if the poster left with a few of the wine glasses that were given out? It's the elitist attitude of people like this, why people think Porsche people are snobs. I mean it's not like crashed the Ferrari concourse not knowing anyone.

Truth be told, I was welcomed with open arms by everyone whom I came in contact with at the event.
Both old friends and new.

And again thanks to RS Barn (Pete and Max), Bob, Jay, Darryl, Kathy, Jeff, Don and all the great folks for another great time. I really enjoyed myself.

Oh yea, please delete all of my 968 releted posts and bump down to noob status.
And if I sent you free parts, please return them. I'm taking my ball and going home.

This whole thing sounds to me like someone trying to create controversy for controversy sake.
I can't imagine anyone at this weekend's celebration making such comments.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was posted by someone who wasn't even there, for the purpose of trying to throw a proverbial turd into the punchbowl.
It's all the more absurd being directed at you of all people.

I was glad you were there, and I am not alone. Not even close.

This weekend was a great time, and all who shared in it know that to be true.

I wasn't there, as Hershey is a bit of a hike from Central Texas (though I did drag my wife from our home in Phoenix to Breckenridge CO for an Austin Healey event once, so one of these days I may yet make the trek). Nor do I know you outside of this forum. But, as others have said, your contributions to the 968 community have been great, so the thought of excluding you just because you don't currently own a 968 is beyond ridiculous. Especially given that you own such an awesome-looking 951. Don't sweat it - you're clearly welcomed by 99.99% of the 968 family.

I wish I could have been there to hang out with you and other 968 owners. As for the person on the other board who won't divulge their name, screw 'em.

You have always given a lot to the 968 community and have continued to do so even when you currently don't have a 968. You're always welcome at any 968 event as far as I am concerned. Like Jay said, once 968'er, always a 968'er!

Pat, I of course support the other opinions about anyone making you feel unwelcome at a 968 event.

But as someone who does NOT frequent other Porsche sites I find it frustrating that I cannot simply read what lead up to your apology.

Why not just be direct and reference the specific discussion group and/or provide a link?

Other than that it was a very well done event, kudos to Jeff, Jim, Jay, Darryl and Kathy for doing all the heavy lifting required to bring this thing together.

I have nothing against any other type of Porsche, except maybe the Panamerica any enjoy hanging out with other enthusiast but when it is a "968 Celebration" for 968 owners it shuold remain exclusively for 968 owners even if the person involved is freinds with several of the attendees.
