Hub painting

It's winter and time to for for those nigly things that bug me. I hate washing the car to go to a PCA function and have my hubs all rusty brown by the time I get there. So I decided to paint my hubs this winter. I did a test hub in the fall and so far all is good through many washings and hard braking.
I wire brushed and used a good etching primer with Wirth silver over top. Point of this topic is just a simple thing in case some one wants to do this as well - probably only applies to the Americas?
You have to mask everything - Duh! - but the one great time saver is that Phily Cream Cheese chip (crisps) dip container is the perfect size to mask the hub nut!

I painted mine black and skipped the primer - my bad - wish I had the primer on now. For all the trouble masking aren't you just a couple of bolts away from taking the rotor off completely? Might actually save some time?

I have to remove the caliper and I believe it requires a 9mm and 10 mm hex, at least it did on my S2. Try and find a 9mm hex socket at any local store, I tried last year. I ground down a hex Allen key from 10mm to 9mm but I couldn't get enough torque to loosen the bolt. I wasn't into the special order for one tool - masking tape was much cheaper and only 5 minutes more. Even if I removed the disk I would still have to mask the pad contact area anyway.
If I made it any easier I wouldn't have time for another frosty bevarge on a Sunday afternoon. It's all about the "experience" [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img]
