Following the dictatorial moderator comments and nazi like editorial effort, I would like to remove myself from the Forum. Can we please be provided with a "How to" so as to be able to achieve this, along with removing our Posts/Topics.

you can't. that would be counter to the best interests of the membership. the information here is retained for posterity, and to preserve the integrity of the encyclopedia that the site is. that would be like deleting the entire volume of the letter "R".



the information is the most important thing.



there is no nazi-like editing going on. nothing of importance is being edited. we are cleaning up the vomit though.

Seeing as though the Moderator likes to stop discussions rather than moderate them and is the only one who can lock a discussion to stop dissent, I will try again.



Why can an individual decide what is "vomit" and what is not? The role of a Moderator is to ensure appropriate behavior/decorum, not restrict discussion. A Forum is an exchange of ideas in an open area. You cannot control where the conversation goes and what is said, it is the nature of social websites.



The Dictatorial approach and heavy handed editorial license, along with shutting down conversations, simply because you think it might have gone off track is not the role of the Moderator. If there is bad behavior and language used - different story.



So, once again, if the "Moderator" can remove information without oversight, why can't I remove my own, along with any record I was once here. Might does not equal right. In a Forum we are all equal and it is our discussion that lends credibility to our thoughts.



Otherwise, this is a Dictatorship, not a Forum.

So, if unlike some, I cannot arbitrarily decide to remove my own contributions, let alone others contributions. How can I simply remove my membership so that neither my avitar, details, user name etc are recorded and all of my posts are marked (along with anyone else who would chose or take the time to formally cancel their membership) as "No Longer Member".



Perhaps if we provide this option, you can keep my vomit and have a true reflection of how many members there really are.



And I suppose once again, you will move this and not allow any opportunity for any discussion.

nobody stopped anything or locked anything. however, your second topic has been merged with the first.



it is pretty easy to tell what is "vomit". it stinks up the room, and serves no desirable function. nobody is curtailing any exchange of ideas. you are over-reacting. the only thing that happened was a few threads were brought back on topic by deleting the off topic conversation, which had nothing to do with the topic, and served no purpose whatsoever.



i cannot stress this enough, but this is not a social website. this is a technical website with social aspects. its primary function is that of an encyclopedia, not a chat board. through discussions we are able to provide information, but it is the information that is most important, and not the inane drivel you find on twitter.



no conversations were shut down. we do, however, reserve the right to do that if things get out of hand. to this date, they have not gone so far as to require that.



it is the right of the administration to decide what to remove and what not to remove. we do not want any important information removed, particularly when somebody throws a hissy fit, and wants to take their ball and go home. we had that happen before, and it left a number of threads making no sense when the posts were removed, and some good information was lost. hence, we no longer allow that.



news flash, this is a privately owned site. while we value and consider the thoughts and desires of the membership, ultimately how the site functions, and the direction it takes, is decided by the ownership, not the members. the role of the moderator and administrator is determined by the ownership.



i spent a lot of money purchasing this site (more than many people spent buying their car). i have spent, and continue to spend, hundreds of hours every year maintaining it. when you want to step up and do that, let me know. i could use the help.



nothing has changed. this has been the policy all along. it is only recently that things got out of hand, and had to be brought back in line.

This was a weird one that got out of hand. Hopefully it is fixed and everyone can relax. I hope Craig will rejoin us, but everyone has to walk their own path. While having a conversation with Flash, we figured out the settings were goofed up and people couldn't reply to certain threads. As Flash has said it is fixed now.



I think things will return to normal. I was as guilty as anyone in certain threads causing derailments. I apologize and hope everyone forgives me. I forget, not everyone thinks I am as funny as I do. Man I crack me up.

I think you are being somewhat biased against RL based on your previous interactions over there. Perhaps that is why you seek to differentiate this site to remove the social interaction that is prevalent on RL.



Actually there is a lot of good information over there, and a lot more than on this site. This is not an opinion but fact based on my search for information over the last few years. Yes, there is also some incorrect information, but for most it is pretty easy to work out what is opinion and what is fact. And sometimes I find info here that is not on RL, but you can't make generalistic comments that it is "nonsense".

+1 on RL. I have found a lot of good info there (lot of common issues between the 944 and the 968, so it brings a lot experience to bear on some issues). Is there bad info there, sure. And if you caught any of my technical disagreements with some of the info here, there is also info here that would not pass peer review by experts in the field. It is always a buyer beware market in Forums.

the problem with that site is that some of the most active members are the least knowledgable, but the first to offer up bad advice. there is also a very strong bias against anything from anybody here. you can't even mention anything without being threatened of being banned, and some have been banned. it's all due to a few disgruntled members.



as for stuff being there but not here, i find that very hard to believe in the 968 arena. i have grabbed and posted anything of value that i could find. there are some really bad DIYs there that i have left alone, but not much else.

This exemplifies the main issue that I've found with this site compared to other Forums I've been involved in. When someone has a different viewpoint/opinion, or a problem with the site, or, or, it is difficult to impossible to have an open discussion to resolve it. The appropriate response from a moderator should be one to facilitate dialog with some control, not shut it down by their comments.

if you think i was heavy handed, you should try mentioning something from D1R or RS Barn on the other site. you'll be threatened with being banned almost immediately. talk about nazi-like moderation.

I just stumbled on this absurd interchange with the unfortunate "craigawoodman". Regardless the actual or perceived insult he claims to have suffered, to invoke comparisons with Nazism, dictators, etc., at best warped.

 

I do appreciate the consistent, firm responses from "Flash", and further believe we all owe a debt of gratitude to him for founding and maintaining this very informative forum. His efforts to minimize the off-topic meanderings frequently found in most forum sites is exemplary.
