I have been working with Veronique at Jager Engineering to make hood liners for the 968. They have them for the 944 but not for us.

I sent her a pattern and received my first test set a few days ago.

I put them on today and they are perfect.



The liners are black and pull heat from the engine instead of reflecting it back. The liner slips under the plastic clips on the driver's side of the hood so there is no need to trim for them.

The liner absorbs the noise from the top of the engine, the net result being a deeper sounding exhaust note. BEAUTIFUL AND FULL SOUNDING!



Application, using 3M spray on adhesive, takes about 5-10 minutes per side and it well worth the time. When they are sold they should sell for $75, the same as the 944 covers were.

They are holding on quite well after a couple of 2 hour runs. The 3M adhesive should hold as long as you let it dry before you close the hood and go for a ride...don't ask me how I know, <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> just let the glue dry overnight with the hood up with the hood lamp disconnected.



The engine sound is like night and day. I am running a stock exhaust system, except that I have removed the front blocking plate in the resonator, and the exhaust tone is very deep and rich. The liner has all but eliminated the top half of the engine sound. The liners also keep the hood resonance down.

Try it...you'll like it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



No issues with clearance with my strut bar brackets or the front edge of the top engine cover. The liners will slip under the plastic clips on the driver's side so installation is easy. The liners slip under the hood frames on all sides. I suggest dry fitting the liners into place to get them just right, them tape them to the hood at the mid point. Pull the top out of place on one liner and spray the glue on both sides (cover the entire front of the car/engine bay), after some tack time, glue the top into place. Do the same for the bottom, do the same on the other side and let dry several hours for complete adhesion.

Unfortunately, I can't post pictures on this site, because I always get an error saying the file is too large <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Very frustrating, especially since once upon a time, I used to be able to post pictures, using the same camera. I don't know if there is a way to adjust the setting on my camera to shrink the file size. My brother has some type of software that shrinks the size; I keep forgetting to ask him what it is. Anybody have any recommendations?



Have you tried measuring the underhood temperature with and without (for which it would obviously be too late if you haven't done it already <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) the liners? I'd be curious...

In the meantime, you can use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to change file sizes so that they can be uploaded to the site. Once you open the picture file in Manager, choose Edit and Change File Size (or some option like that, I may not have the words exactly correct).

From the web site" These heat shields will hold up much better than the OEM hood pad, keep the exterior of the hood cool and will not reflect engine heat back down toward your intake.



Made of 1/4 inch nitrile vinyl closed cell foam rubber, these hood liners will not absorb water or oil. Since the material is made for aircraft firewalls and bulkheads and is FAA approved for aircraft, its extremely light, about 11 ounces on average, are fire retardant and insulate against sound and heat.



You can wash the liner and simply hose it off and unlike the factory liner will not absorb water and resists mildew. Liners are available only in black.



The liners have a closed cell texture on one side and a smooth finish on the other. Installation is easy just use some spray adhesive (such as 3M) which can be purchased at most hardware stores."

No, I do not have the ability to measure underhood temps. Flash does, and he may get a set of the liners and be able to provide that info.

Hmmm... My version of Office doesn't seem to have Picture Manager. I did a search on my computer, and nothing came up. Not to hijack this excellent thread (thanks, Brian, for doing the legwork on what promises to be a very cool enhancement to our cars), but how many people have this problem? Many people can obviously post pictures to the site, but from some of the responses, it's clear that I'm not the only one who can't. Thanks.

I would love to do this but the stock one on my 951 that I had was so bad that I am a little gun shy. I know it says there is not a risk of it falling apart but just HATED the stuff crumbling in my hair when I was working on the car. Good news though I think I have only been under the 968's hood because I wanted to not because I had to! Such a nice feeling! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
