Hi,

 

I just bought a 1992 968, what a pleasure to drive! But got a strange annoying noise during the 5h drive back home. After a search, I am pretty sure it is the famous pinion bearing noise.

It is right now in a shop for a major service but that triggered my intentions to become a member of the 968forums and dig more informations about it.

I live in Boucherville, south shore of Montreal, in the province of Quebec, Canada.

Pinion bearing sounds like a jet engine whine when lifting off the throttle in gear from a decent speed

And should stop when throttle reapplied
