Hello from Canada
#1

Hi. I've had a lot of BMWs in the past but I finally made the jump to a Porsche recently when a 968 came up for sale locally in need of some maintenance.

It's a red on black 1992 968 coupe with some desirable options like sport seats and Cup 1 wheels. No local shops are interested in working on it so the previous owner parked it for years after the timing belt was in need of replacement. It was kept indoors and is in good shape but just needs some attention mechanically.

I inspected the camshafts the other day and thankfully there doesn't appear to be any wear or missing teeth so hopefully I've avoided any expensive bills. There does appear to be wear on the Variocam pads so I want to tackle that and the timing belt before driving it anywhere.

Looking forward to moving forward with the project and hopefully getting some advice from other 968 owners on the forum.

I would suggest going just a bit further and doing the head gasket if its been standing for a while

I will be in Comox in later June for a long weekend cousins reunion.   I used to have a 92 coupe manual and a 92 cab tiptronic. Would like to meet you and see your car.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I considered a head-gasket but it looks like there has been head work at some point recently. Usually I expect some grime or brown discoloration inside an engine after running for as long as this engine has. When I pulled the valve cover it was spotless. There was almost no maintenance history included with the car so I'm having to do a bit of archeology as I go.

Kim, you're more than welcome to stop by and check out the car. Send me a message and we can figure something out.

You will be surprised, with extra regular oil changes they can look really clean, mine is hardly dirty at 164k and I know it has the original head gasket
