Hi from East TN

Hi, new to the Porsche world. Been through MGs and all things British. Now on an Italian swing with Alfa. Figure it's time to move up and try some finer points. Looking for a 968 for DE and fun...

Thanks and look forward to the forum.

Hi Ozzy,

Welcome to 968Forums...our own Flash was a British sportscar fan...

It takes a few posts to reap all the rewards, but we hope it's worth it.

Regards,

Welcome to the Forum. I joined a month ago when I started the process of looking for a 968. Three weeks later I found one for sale only 100 miles away. From my recent experience the things I found most important are service records. Since all the available 968's are at least 16 years old the records that come with the cars will tell you what to expect in its near future. Why its being sold is another clue to what you can expect from the car. Mine had set for most of the last 3 years so I had issues with old fuel and what that does to filters, and injectors, the AC having lost refrigerant.

Back to service records. If you do not know when the cam drive belt was changed, you are looking at a real problem or at the very least having it replaced soon. No DE's until you know. When the pistons are pumping up and down a 100 times a second and some of the valves decide to just set there open, its not good.

Also a check by someone very familiar with 968's to tell you that the noise that comes to you from the transaxle if its a 6 spd. is not the dreaded pinion bearing whine that comes before a multi thousand dollar rebuild. Its real because while Porsche says it only happened in a small percentage of the cars, the statistics say that over the years and miles a larger and larger percentage of the 968's will experience it.

Again, records and experienced inspection.
