Hello from Sydney
#1

Hi All,

I have just joined and popped in to say hello.

I have an extremely rare car for Australia, in fact, the only one of its kind.

My '92 Cabriolet is one of only two to come to Aus in that year. My Tiefschwarzt on Cashmere leather, 6-speed, being the better of the two, of course! The other was a red on black tiptronic. Sales were really slow that year, just like the rest of the world, so mine sat in the showroom til early '93 before someone snapped it up. In Australia, the '93 list price was around $150,000! I believe the first owner picked it up for a nice discount. I am the second owner and have been so for about twelve years.

In '93 there were only three imported and in '94 again only three...for the whole country.

There were 136 968's imported in total. 68 coupes, 60 CS's and 8 Cabs, making them quite a rarity here. As I understand it, there were fewer than 900 right hand drive cabriolets made in total. Where are the rest of them, I wonder? Mostly the UK, I suppose.

Anyway, I love it! A friend whom I hadn't seen for a while asked me the other day, "do you still have that nice little Porsche?". To which, I replied, "they'll probably bury me in that!"

Cheers to one and all,

AJR

Welcome from me as well. I wonder which country is better represented in the 968 world, Holland or Australia?

Great information. I live in Brisbane and, other than another local forum member, I have yet to come across another 968 on the road. Your information explains why.

And yes, what were they thinking when they arrived at the pricing when launched. Think what you can buy for that at today's dollars - although it will not be essentially handmade. Sounds like yours is a beauty.

Cheers,

Peter

Welcome Arj.

I'm down in the far southwest of Victoria and I've had my '93 build Cab for about a year now. I'm interested to know that it is only one of 8 in the country and one of 3 sold in '94; it was sold in November 1994 with a sticker price of about $165,000.... WOW! I'm the third owner but the first two were sister- in-law, so I guess I could get away with calling myself the second! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> My car has only 41750 k.'s on it and I'm trying to keep it in as mint condition as possible, consistent with driving it a bit of course. As you can see it is guards red with full black leather interior and93 Cup (93 Cup (Cup 2)) wheels.

So far the only mods are Koni front struts put on by the previous owner and a K&N filter, but I have an order in to Flash at DR1 for a heat shield, a strut brace and a short shifter, all easily reversible to return the car to stock. I'm also going to source an airbox to modify, keeping the original one "un-butchered" and a chip from RS Barn to give me something to do over the winter.

I hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am mine.

Great to see some Aussies here!

I gladly use mine everyday and have clocked up over 180,000 kms.

It's completely unmodified, but I'm looking at putting some adjustable strut tops in at the advice of my mechanic...sorry...Porsche engineer...at considerably less than the factory option.

Does anyone have an opinion on aftermarket shockers for a cab? I've heard horror stories about anything other than Boges.
