I sold my 97 911 manual coupe about 3 years ago to fund a boat purchase and missed it more than I anticipated. Purchased a 968 manual coupe last November. Paid in the teens and heads up have already put about 5 g into it to get it to my standard (I do not do my own work). My investment is about half that of 911. So here are some comparison notes.
1. The 968 does not have as much torque or acceleration as 911 and is also minus the screem at high rpm.
2. The 968 cabin noise (road noise & body creeks) are significantly higher than 911.
3. There is a little more room for luggage or golf clubs.
4. The cabin and driving position is very similar to 911.
5. The 968 is nearly as much fun to drive in a spirited way and requires less skill (a good thing, the 50/50 balance is a plus).
6. Aside from the power plant, the 968 is a little simpler car and consequently I think will be a little less costly to maintain in the long run.
My perspective. I suspect may be some controversy among the group here. I might add a very supportive group here which is one of the things that I immediately missed after selling 911.
Good luck in your search. In particular make sure you know condition of belts and vario cam system. Get. PPI with someone who is familiar with 968's.
