Hello ,
I have been asked to provide an introduction of myself so i have so i have ..

Well my name is twincamsham- i am a Black late 1993 Porsche 968 sport that my owner bought in the UK last week and then drove at break neck speed back to France where i now live.

My owner is cotemplating messing with me and iv heard him talk about big red brakes all round, a respray as im a little tatty... shiver and hes also mentioned a supercharger/turbocharger, Weitec Coilovers and 18" BBS rims he also thinks that i need my cams and vario cam system checked but you wouldnt think he was that concerned the way he had me redlined in 6th at 150 + mph on an empty autoroute between paris and Orleans sunday night. oh well he will live and learn if my valves collide, thankfully we got away with it but there is slight ticking in my top end.

My owner is an Irishman which would explain the plain irresponsibility of driving me like that after 16 quiet years. "to clean out the cobwebs and the carbon he said" reckons that "he does it to every car he buys to see what breaks as its a good place to start fixing" he also said hes seen it written all over magazines that i am a genuine "160" mph car and i don't think he believed it- he does now ") wink.
i must say i quietly enjoyed the workout.. but my sun roof didnt as one of the plastic gears seems to have lost teeth and one side decided to alarmingly pop up and reckless speed due to the cabon pressure and we nearly lost our roof.. it was like opening an emergency door on a Ryanair 737.

So now i sit outside the house with my orange indicators, standard wheels with lacquer peeling , stone chipped paintwork , standard high suspension, but i am clean and straight and 'ripe for modification' so he says.
I noticed he has ordered 4 axle stands off Ebay and he said that 'those horrible wheels will be the first to go' so i expect to be ripped apart in a shed any day now. hes also found corrosion around my jacking points and seen that all the rubber seals on my side skirts have shrunk away beyond belief so he will no doubt be in underneath slobbering choc full off Belgian Beer most given sundays. i dread the thought of the work quality but sometimes he does well..
Hes also started removing my interior piece by peace and handwashing each panel back to my original cream leathar as i was slighlty brown,

My reason to be on porsche 968 forums is that i fear he will get way in over his head many times and that we will need to resort back here for technical help and advise and no doubt buy junk parts from other like minded abusers of cars like me.
He is a qualified fitter and Auto electrician but at this stage in the relationship i do not trust him one bit..

Hes been raving on about M030 optioned spindles and hubs as "they will take the big reds straight on" personally i think my current brakes are fine but hes complained that there more powerful on his bicycle
Hes spotted that all the bolts and nut heads for my bushings and basically everything underneath have corrosion and has cursed buying a car in west UK where winters are colder and more salt on the road.

In fact he has not said anything very positive about me at all, I fear i will be condemned to a garage for many months to come....
He reckons my orange indicators are horrible and has a plan to even delete my rear spoiler and just leave the subtle lip underneath,He reckons they are both "so 1980s" and unnecessairy in 2010.
I ask you where are the purists? such a young upstart should never have bought a car like me in the first place, an old subaru impreza or something jap with a fiberglass body kit and graphics would have suited this guy better. hs

Good luck to other cars i hope you are not abused in the same way and get to enjoy your retirement less painfully....

I hear you brother...

Having spent the last 16 years in a climate controlled garage under a comfy blanket, I was rudely driven across the country by my new owner. Through rain, snow, and -gasp- mud in the most selfish display of blatant hedonism I can imagine. He covered me in ghastly blue tape, loaded my trunk with suitcases, ate sandwiches and crisps while driving me, and even fell asleep sitting on my previously pristine chairs. What a nightmare. I am now sitting in a new garage that smells like gasoline next to some hideous vehicle. The other day I heard him talking about a chip and a chassis brace whatever that is. This is unbearable.

I am so glad to see that someone else shares my concerns. Keep me posted on your progress in the resistance!

Wow, with all those planned upgrades, and black car, and 6 speed, and being able to go 150 mph, you must certainly be a male 968 -- welcome, how exciting. My name is Rosie, I am just a cute little old stock Polar Silver 968 with a tiptronic. I call myself Rosie since I wish my owner would repaint me in the oh-so-cute Silver Rose color of the 1988 944 Turbo S, with those really sweet and cute pink interior seats. My owner rarely takes me over 100 mph, and with the tiptronic I do a good job at getting groceries. And his wife takes me to the beauty parlor which is my favorite time of the month. He said he would even put one of those cute little flower vases from the New Beetle on my dashboard, and that would make me feel really dressed up.

Nice to meet you, tee-hee. If you are ever in southern california, here is my phone number, maybe we could go out cruising together. it is summer, I have a new bra and matching bikini, and I love it when my owner takes my roof off, maybe we could go to the beach together.

Thanks to all,
Well there no real point in talking about myself i figured !!

This is my first Porsche, I was looking for something Retro and RWD for a while, i almost went for a 2DR Ford Sierra Cosworth but the Porsche Build Quality won me, as did the individuality of the 968.
I have a lot of work to do on this car,
Its not a Dog and to the average eye looks mint but to me looks tired in many areas. unfortunatly il end up giving it a repiant as a few areas have been done before and not done too well.
Also not impressed with the brakes by todays standards that is.
But i have the know how and the garage so here goes another project,
look forward to receiving and giving modification information so we can all take these cars to the next level and most importantly enjoy doing it.
A Plus tard
Rory

Nice to meet you, and your owner...

You will find that there have been a great deal of advancements/enhancements made for our cars, many available through RS Barn (Site Sponsor and part owner).

Best place to start is to get the car baselined on maintenance, and from there, the skies the limit.

Welcome, we look forward to your questions and contributions,

Jay

Hello all

Since for some reason i cannot post at all on the forums ?????? i will be forced post my first question here ..
Why such such security anyway, are we talking old porsches or drug deals and pornography.
I got an email to say my account has been approved yet i cannot post anything anywhere, the reason to join was sort of 100 % so i could be an active member

Porsche 968 Clear front indicators i think will be my first purchase,
I have been told that Porscheshop.co.uk are the only place to get these, however looking at them on thier website the fit in the bumper is not so great- when questioned on it they told me they are actually for a porsche 993 but are all that is available.
]
They have smoked and clear in stock

Im sure they are also available stateside or from china,

can anyone give advice on where they got theirs and if they are happy with quality and fitment

PS - if any moderators are viewing please open at least some of my account so i can post in correct topic areas !

Thanks in advance
Rory

Welcome Rory! Best intro ever!!!

Correct, the clear lenses are indeed 993 parts.
Fitment is subpar, but will go on.

...and no one makes one that is actually for a 968. Thats what you get for having low production numbers.

Ok i got it thanks for that,
Excuse the intro i often go off on a rant like that lol.

From those with first hand experience on the said lenses are smoked the best looking or clear more in keeping with the colour of the foglights and generally more OEM looking ?

Mind if i get some names of US Stockists of these lenses

Regards
Rory

Hi Rory,

The main reason for all the security is to keep out the drug dealers, pornography and other elements who are even more undesireable.

Once you're in, your're in and we value the relationships far more than any other car forum that I know of...many of us have become close personal friends (that extend beyond the forum, and the car). So please stay with it and before you know it, you will have the secret decoder ring and handshake all sorted out.

Regards,

Jay

Welcome Rory, I too had to get a few Posts up before the security walls came down. That's the way it is, but it does not take too many. Just keep posting. We're all glad to hear about what you're up to with twincamsham!

The craic is mighty ;-) !

Go for the clear ones - at least that is what I did - but then it is down to personal taste. The fit is far away from being perfect but it gives the car a fresher look....

Cheers

An explanation of access restrictions and member levels, how they correlate, and how you graduate from one level to the next, is all in the Tutorial. You were instructed to read it when you signed up. Please consult that first

The levels and restrictions are there for reasons. They are designed to facilitate a smooth running and well organized site.

They were designed to both control spam, and to prevent new members from jumping right in with what they think is an immediate question, taking threads off topic, or putting things in the wrong places, and to encourage reading first, before asking a question that is likely already answered (such as the clear lenses being 993 lenses). While certainly we want to provide any information we can, we don't want to see any more repetition of material than is absolutely necessary.

The levels and restrictions have been very effective.

Search is your friend. Always use "more search options" when using it though.

Welcome and good luck.

Thanks to all replies,

So its all about getting my post count up that im deemed safe, ok i got it.
Yes il keep an eye on the search feature , thats good advice.

Shame on the 968 clear repeaters being a bad fit, they certainly look much much better, i wonder what would be involved in getting a mould made up for proper fitting ones ? i would have thought after all these years someone would have done it properly..

Ok so the 968 were a limited production model
but if 14000 odd 968s were sold even if 3/4 of them are still in existance thats 10500 cars and at 100.00 euro odd a set thats over 1 million in revenue provided at some stage everyone buys a set !

if i had the equipment id make a mould no problem for that - Il even go as far as to donate my old orange ones as a sacrificial lamb provided i get the first set of clears free ") No dont try and stop me..

I know i got some Rear clear lenses for a Bmw 6 series years ago, they came from somewhere in scandinavia and i think they were made from a custom mould, price was not outrageous although it did take a while,
Transformed the look of the car, it made it timeless ,

there are threads all about these lenses, and the idea of making new ones - please check them out - they cover all of this - it has been a recurrent topic, and while i hate them (i think they look too ricey, but then i'm pretty old and stuck in my ways) many people like them

Ok just trying the search option here but all its bringing up is my own posts,
i cant seem to see a 'more options' tab.

Anyway iv emailed my contact in Sweden regarding the mould so wel see what he says,

Yes i have no problem with those that like their orage repeaters dont get me wrong, if thats your car in your signature pic then they suit it very well, in fact in a rare case clear indicators may actually take from that car due to its colour.

However my car is black and i completely dislike orange repeaters on black as they really stand out as they remind me of a cost cutting alternative on base model cars, almost a laziness or tightness on the part of the manufacturer.
I can think of very few examples of a car where the orange does not distract me from good design, Just about every Golf benefits from them

And i keep telling myself its not a poor mans porsche - its a porche for a poorer man
well thats my excuse and im sticking to it ")
