Haynes or Chilton Repair Manual
#1

Does Haynes or Chilton make a repair manual for my 93? I can't seem to find one on the internet.

Nope, only for the 944.

I found this awesome site All Data.com. For 25 dollars per year you have online access to the same information that garages use. I figured I would try this because the place that is replacing my timing belt is suggesting that I replace the water pump even though it is not bad. They want 650 for everything and I can buy the new water pump from the internet for like 185. I figured it would be worth it to save that much money.

Does this service cover instructions for replacing items, like a factory workshop manual, or does it only quote the cost of parts and labor for repairs? In quickly glancing through the site, and the two sample vehicles they give, I didn't see any step-by-step repair instructions. Thanks.

Don't forget that Eric has a link to the 200+ MB 968 electronic workshop manual here:

When you get to the thread above , be sure to right-click, save-as the manual , to your hard drive. It is going to take a while.....

I signed on. I don't think there is any information that I didn't already have, but it is well put together. Easy searches. Much better than the manuels I have on CD.

Ah, so it does give repair instructions. Wasn't clear to me from the brief time I spent on their site looking through their examples. Thanks.

It gives instructions, but no pictures to show how.

And then only for the 8v N/A cars. Does not cover the 944S, 944S2 or Turbo...

Meinporsche - if you can get belts changed and pump (with or without the pump) for $650, it's either a wonderful deal, or it's like many others - too good to be true.

All Data list the water pump at $432. That's sound in line for what I paid three years ago. I don't think the old idea to replace the water pump anytime you do the belt applies to the 968 like it did to the 944. I replaced my with belt when I bought my car because it had over 100,000 miles. I just had my head removed for a valve job and replaced the belt again, but did not do the water pump. Visual inspection looked okay.

I have the Chilton Manual for early 944s but not the '93 968. It's not a very good resource BTW. That's my opinion. It has the 924, 944, and 928 info all mixed together.
