Hatch glass ==> lexan
#21

I don't know. Once you strip off the panels it's essentially the same chassis.

I have run the 6 speed gearbox a couple of times and don't recall the weight of the car being much different. I have a 968 engine in my car so that's the same. The interior fittings contribute hugely to the weight of the car, so maybe the 968 fitout is heavier.

I think you're right, which means that for all intents and purposes, it should be possible to get a 968 track car down to virtually the same weight as a 944 track car. A properly modded (exhaust, intake, chip, lightweight flywheel, etc.) 3.0 liter in a 2500 lb car sounds like a very fun package, as this should give under 10 lb/hp, which was supercar territory not so long ago. Add forced induction, and you've got a real force to be reckoned with, all for a fraction of the cost of, say, a GT3 or Z06 Corvette.

Be wary of the "fraction of the cost" theory. It often doesn't end that way <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

LOL! I was thinking that as I was typing those words! Well, 98% is still a fraction, right? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
