Facebook - PSA

Very true. i have noticed it as well. it's especially evident when you shop. Often theres a 17 year old at the register who refuses to give you any eye contact. There social skills, or lack of, becomes even more evident as you engage them in conversation. You can actually feel the discomfort. [Image: unsure.gif] Sometimes, to break the silence, I'll ask. " So how's your day going?" Every now and then I get a smile and a warm response. But often its just "huh"?

Do you mean Newspeak in the Orwellian sense?

I like the FB experience. It alows me to keep track of family and friends who are far flung. I keep my security and privacy setting very high and I NEVER allow 3rd party software (Fish, Farm, Mafia, etc.). I thought Family Tree would be really cool...what a nightmare! It took months to unsubscribe from all of the tendrils of spam that eminate from this one piece of software...UGH

I rarely post a status, I generally prefer to post birthday greetings or snarky comments on other's walls.

JMHO,

lol - yeah - i don't want to talk to my family and friends that much

i rather like having a bit more control over my interactions, like whether or not i pick up the phone or answer the door - the electronic thing carries the presumption that i will respond, and people often get cranky when you don't

i have yet to respond to any friend requests on any such site - i just don't want that level of commitment of time - frankly i hate having to spend any time at all on the computer, and would be very happy if i could find a way to live without it

i don't let out my cell phone number to many people either, and my home number even less, all for the same reasons

yeah, i'm wacky
