I may finally have to make the jump to PS3.

My brother has been playing the demo he downloaded, and its much better than GT4.

I just don't understand why they STILL don't have any Porsches! Seriously, this is the 4th sequel And I don't know if I'd buy a PS3 just for the prologue, as it's nothing more than a demo of the real game. It sure looks nice! I'll wait for the full version

GT 3 and 4 both had RUF Porsches. Slim pickins but they were there. I bet it's more of a Porsche not willing to cooperate then polyphony not going after the license! I just may pull the trigger for the prologue.

I know, and that's weird. So many other, lesser games have had Porsches, but "the ultimate driving simulator" doesn't? O_o You'd think they would want to go for the best to get the most exposure. At least they have Ferraris now

And yes, at least RUFs were present in the previous games. I even attempted the famous yellow bird + street tires + nurburgring run

My information may be out of date, but I thought GTR2 (for the PC) was the best pure driving simulator, while the console games were just that, more game-oriented. Is this no longer true? I've been thinking of purchasing a simulator to help me keep my skills sharp (less dull is more like it...) between track events, so I'm only interested in the maximum amount of realism, and couldn't care less about flashy effects, or anything else that true gamers put a high priority on. Have the console games surpassed the PC games for pure simulation purposes? What's the best package (console/PC, wheel/pedals, etc.) you guys recommend? Thanks.

I think you should stick with GTR2, it's still the best in my eyes. Games like Forza and Gran Turismo are good, but I feel like they're more "driving simulators" than anything else. Although the fact that they have street cars, not strictly race cars, might make it a more viable option too.

As for the hardware, I splurged and got myself a Logitech G25 steering wheel and pedals which works great. However, it does not work with the xbox 360, and thus you can't use it with Forza 2

It goes very well with GTR2 because it has paddle shift, sequential shift stick, 6 speed stick AND a clutch pedal, and the full 900 degree steering. A bit pricey, but worth it if you want to get into all the fine little details

+1 on the Logitech G25

+1 that it sucks that the G25 doesn't work on Forza 2.

I have heard that EA holds the Licence for simulation Porsche's and wont give it up to anyone else.

ie: NFS, Forza.

Even GTR2 doesn't "really" have factory Porsche's. They are modified and tuned cars for the specific team that owns them.

I hope that GT5 won't end up like GT4 which became shelved once I discovered over half the cars were Japanese.

ie: 34 Skylines, 18 RX-7's, 16 NSX's and 11 MX-5's.

Most of which had no significant differences. Then came the 24hr races. At first I didn't mind doing them but once I realized that it took a minimum 8hours of game play (of which sometimes the PS2 froze) just to do one race. The game had to go.

It was dumb watching the computer race itself on B-Spec for all that time just so you could win another Japanese race car. Whoop de freakin dooo.

I will say that I did like how GT4 introduced me to Alfa Romero's and showed me the Australlian versions of Ford and GM cars. And let me tune the Delorean so that it could compete with Corvettes.

Plus I really loved the photo mode.

Oh. So can some one tell me would it be better to hold off on the Prologue and just wait for the full version?

Guess I've been out of the gaming world a bit. I knew not of the G25 wheel. But after reading this post and seeing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI5fFop57Mc

I really want one.

Personally I think that GT5 won't be out for another year or so which is why they're releasing the prologue; to tide the fans over. If you must get your GT5 fix, I say get it If I already had a PS3 I would consider it too, but I don't, and probably won't for a while.

I've got a PS3 and usually love Gran Turismo, but I'm holding off until the full version comes out. I don't feel like spending $50 for only a fraction of what the full game will be like.

Wow.

I heard the wheel was good but not that good.

I'm gonna half to get it so that my driving skills don't get rusty. Although its been 9 months already.

I think the old small HDD PS3s had PS2 emulation, but the new ones do not.

Pazzer,

Since you have a pretty good compliment of the games, do you agree with Renalicious that GTR2 is the best overall game for honing your real-world driving skills?
