4 968's at Watkins Glen
#1

This past weekend we had an event with Chin Motorsports at Watkins Glen...

Good enough on Saturday with no rain, a bit cool in the morning but getting up to almost 50 degrees by the end of the day. On Sunday everybody brought out the suntan lotion...almost 65 degrees!

The best part was to see Anchorman and 3 other 968's at this event!

Anchor was forced to remain in a lower run group because he didn't have a roll bar in his car (Flash, you let us down!) and he ran down almost every car in his group. Great lines, Jim!

I was there with my sleeper turbo and got to instruct a few nice cars, too...I was really hoping the fellow in the Ferrari Modena wanted me to instruct him; but, alas it was not meant to be.

I really enjoyed meeting up with some of our posters...and putting a face and a personality to the name.

A great way to end up the 2005 season here on the East Coast!

Jason,

Sounds great!

We really need photos of your car!

Mine is in for it's cage now at Rollcentre racing so I'll get some pics when I pick it up

Jason, this weekend was a blast - with much of my pleasure due to your fine instructing. It was interesting to see the differences between the two pretty much totally stock cabriolets and the two highly modified coupes. I look forward to seeing you again in the not too distant future.

Regarding the roll bar - see the post I just made to the Modifications - Cab Roll Bar thread.

Oh, Jason, one more thought - have your mechanic install a speedometer. That way I can really get jealous. GREAT CAR - thanks for the rides.

Glad to hear that you had fun and that the 968's were well represented. I wish I could have made it. This was the first former TracQuest event to be managed by Chin Motorsports so I'm glad to hear that things went well.

I just registered for the next Chin MotorSports/TracQuest DE event at Watkins Glen on May 15-16. Anyone else planning to attend?

I may try to squeeze it in.

I'll be up there Mon/Tues the week before so it might be tough.

I'd like to do a Chin/Traquest event though.

I've sent them an E-mail, too.

Anchor, you'll be running with your roll-bar?

Yes, Jason, the new addition is, and will be, in the car. Interestingly, though, the registration process no longer has a place to select the group you want to run in. I'm going to send a separate email to Mark Hicks, General Manager at Chin Motorsports, about this. I'm going to move out of yellow! (Gulp!)

Anchor,

You shouldn't worry...at least as far as your own skills go. You have a nice line and you are very smoothe...those are very important skills to have.

Now, as far as the others go...You can't control what other people do.

I remember at the Chin event last year I had somebody pass me on the outside at the top of the "Esses" heading onto the back straight. I was tracking out and he passed me on the driver's side...on the grass! He felt that I had indicated a pass on that side rather than on the inside, which would have been off-line...Very scary!

Keep you eyes open...and stay calm.
