Well I've got to get back on the horse, as they say. So, I've decided to go back this August when there's another school at Pocono.

Sorry to hear about the problem in the NASA school, and I'm glad to hear that you're planning jump back on the horse. If you don't want to wait until August to race, you could do some races with PCA in the mean time. There are a bunch of PCA races at good tracks between now and then including Watkins Glen. Also, once you have your PCA license, you can automatically apply for a NASA rookie permit and skip the NASA school.

Jason, well done on getting out there. Sorry to hear of your misfortune but I don't quite get what you meant when you said you had a broken valve stem when you were bumped by the other guy. Surely you don't mean an engine valve stem, although I can't think of any others? If so how did you continue? I'm sure I'm confused.

On a side note. That circuit looks great fun. You guys have so many more circuits in the U.S. Where's the Jealousy icon?...



EDIT: just re-read your post. Tyre valve stem uh-huh...no I don't feel like an idiot, well no more than usual. lol Man I can't believe that you got dq'd just for that and it was the other guys fault! That's a tough school.



Oh and PS you guys, just if you weren't busy, I have finally got around to posting some more stuff about my rebuild. I know it's not one of your cars but it's a kissing cousin...951. Anyway if you care to jump onto Rennlist in the 944turbo and turbo 'S' section of the forums, you will see a thread titled 'Just a few subtle changes of late'. It should be hitting the road in 2 days so I'm a bit excited after spinning the #2 rod bearing in November on the track and not driving it since.

OK,



Well, NASA North East region had a Super Comp School yesterday at Pocono; so I tried it again...



Well, this time worked like a charm! I passed and now have my Provisional license as a Rookie. Maybe I just wasn't ready the first time? In any case I learned where most of my blind spots are and got that corrected before this second school.



Now I have to figure out in what NASA class I'll be placed...Not much stock stuff left in my car, so I think I'll have to be classified by the HP/weight method. Right now I've got about 350 hp and 350 TQ, weight with driver is about 2800 lbs. So, I think I have to go to the CCR's and figure it out.



Anyway, thanks to all for the words of encouragement.



DE's take on an entirely different look now...Maybe more useful to think of them as a "Test and Tune" day.

Congratulations Jason. I guess the safety equipment adds back on a fair amount of weight since your still at 2800 pounds. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Yes, it does...Full cage was over 125 lbs. Big Reds up front add something, too.



The total weight also includes the portly driver; at nearly 170 lbs. Probably weighs closer to 2,600 without the driver.

all too true - just last week i was celebrating my 24th birthday - then this morning i look in the mirror and where did my hair go? why am i so much heavier?



a year is probably very optomistic, considering i have yet to buy the tub or develop the engine i intend to use - the plan is to do this somewhat old school and build a fully gutted cab (full cage, fiberglass body, no dash or windsheild) with a supercharged 3.2



i'm figuring to end up about 2300 lbs and 375hp - should be fun

Congratulations Jason!!! Will look forward to hearing about your racing adventures in the future. I will have to be content with DE for now and living vicariously through others racing exploits but I hope to be able to get out there myself with budget being my biggest hurdle. Good luck with your racing.

Congratulations Jason!! There are probably several classes you're eligible for, but I'd recommend GTS. Your specific GTS class is determined by your lbs/rwhp ratio according to the following table:



GTS5 = 6.0 - 8.49

GTS4 = 8.5 - 10.99

GTS3 = 11.0 - 14.49

GTS2 = 14.50 - 18.49

GTS1 = 18.50 and higher



Weight includes car plus driver, and rwhp must be verified on a Dynojet 248. See http://www.gtschallenge.com/rules.htm for the rest of the rules.

Congratulations Jason. That is terrific and sounds like loads of fun. I'm prepairing for starting my competitiion license next month, July 13-15, with ICSCC here in the PNW at the two day race on the Spokane track (my home track). I have my Novice license and will be running the novice races. Three novice races and then an area license and I can race with the 'big boys'.



We probably need to start an old-fart racing club. (minimum 50 years old)

Based on the table that Jim provided, it appears I will be firmly in the GTS4 category...unless I add a bit of weight to the car to bring me down to the next class.



I won't have to worry about being the fastest for quite some time; so I'll work on having fun and building some skills for a while.
