Gauges - what make?
#1

I have a oil sump drain plug from Lindsey with a 1/8 NPT fitting for a temperature sending unit and I am now looking for a nice looking oil temp (and trans temp and oil press too) gauge. I am thinking about these http://www.speedhut.com/gauge_products-a...lution.htm but I am not sure. You guys with extra gauges, what make do you run?

if you are planning on putting them in the slot below the stereo, only the smaller 2.12" gauges will work

i ran VDO gauges so as to match the OEM dash gauges as closely as possible

check out egauges.com - they have a very wide selection

I could not find a VDO boost/vacuum gauge that didn't have "TURBO" printed on the face so i went with NewSouth http://www.newsouthp...om/spectrum.htm. They're LED backlit and it matches the blue LEDs I put in the instrument cluster and dash.

I also use a NewSouth oil temp gauge with the sender mounted in a plate that fits under the oil filter http://prosportgauge...ptor-plate.aspx. It works with the Canton filter and it includes additional ports to add a pressure sender.

Thanks, I'll check egauges for VDO. The newsouth gauges have, IMO only, too many lines in them. And yes, they'll go in the slot below the stereo.

Ordered these, available in both US and metric and lots of choices in colors and fonts http://www.speedhut.com/custom_gauge_des...er-593.htm

Waiting to be installed.

Where do I put the oil pressure sending unit?

porsche does not really give you any spots to install sending units that they are not already using

Hmm, I wonder if it's possible to "steal" a signal from the stock sending unit, provided that they match? But that is a little bit of missing the point of having two gauges...

not sure, but i think your assessment is correct - frankly, i wasn't worried about pressure - the factory gauge is actually quite accurate there

i was, however, worried about oil temp, so i tapped the drain plug for that one

I only really wanted the temp gauges but opted for the oil press too in order to fit the empty slot next to the two. But I like the idea of being able to set high and low pressure warnings and hooking up an external light (ie like a shiftlight on the dash that triggers at say 1,5 bar) since my steering wheel blocks the ! and I certainly don't have the time to check the pressure gauge at close enough intervals to avoid damage due to oil starvation when hammering around the track.

yeah - i went with a clock for that reason - but, i get the idea - good luck - i have my cluster apart now, and there just isn't any easy way to do anything there
