Fuel Injector Replacement?
#1

To All-

First of all, a quick intro and a thank you to all the members that have made my recent purchase of a 968 much less painful than it could have been, by posting here on the boards. I am in the habit of gathering COPIOUS info on the Porsches I have bought in the past before buying them, and have been through two 914s, a 911SC, an 87 944 n/a (still have, going to sell soon *sniff sniff*), and now a 94 968 tip coupe.

I've already done the airbox mod (the butt meter confirms GTG!), and will be getting a Stage 1 chip from RSBarn after I have it in for a tip service and a general health check before up-ing the oomph.

Now for the question-

I like to create a handy-dandy Parts Purchasing chart for the cars that I buy, so that if (WHEN) I need anything, I can refer to the chart and immediately know who has the parts I need the cheapest. I recently started on the fuel section, and am noticing a HUGE discrepancy in prices for Fuel Injectors.

Going to Performance Products/Automotion/Pelican Parts?etc. shows a $450-ish price tag PER injector. However, Vertex Auto has "original Bosch Injectors" for $125 a piece, and Marren Fuel Injection has a complete 4-Injector replacement set for $459.

What's the deal? Anybody replace their injectors with the $125-type injectors versus the "Porsche Original" $450-ish from the big-name suppliers? Are the cheaper ones good to go?

Again, thanks to all who make these boards a GREAT resource for new and experiences 968 owners alike!

do you really need to replace them?

rc engineering, here in torrance, does a great job cleaning and matching, and would be a bit over $100 for the whole set

Flash-

No, don't need to replace them. Like I said, I just like puting together a quick-reference parts and prices list. Was going through the fuel system section and came upon the VAST difference in pricing on the injectors... was just curious!

Thanks for the reply, though. I will put that down on the list as the lowest-cost option!

Probably no question at this point that you never replace functioning fuel injectors before you send them off to RC Engineering for a "clean and calibrate".

I've attached a "calibration report" from the last set of 944 injectors I sent off to RC. As you can see, these injectors were toast prior to the cleaning. They came with a core engine I bought to build for the NASA 944 SPEC series. The "after" flow data is EXACTLY what new injectors flow and you can tell by the BSFC what the potential power output would be for this injector set.

I can't think of a better value for the money.

Rather impressive results!!

My new Pcar has 102,000 miles on it... good idea to have the injectors cleaned up by RC Engineering- especially considering my next-step of getting the RSBarn chip?

Thanks to all for the responses so far!
