FS: Cabriolet temporary cover
#1

For sale: This is a Covercraft part 968 CAB temporay top. This is used in lieu of placing the top up to save on the motor.

Unit is in great shape. There is a small 1" tear as seen in pic next to strap. Some adhesive or patch would fix this no problem.

This unit has rear tabs that goes under rear deck lid and the front portion goes under the wipers. A strap on each side goes through the door handles. Takes about 2 minutes to put in place and it holds pretty well.

unit is wrinkled in picture but levels out once used.

trying to decide on this - definitely want to do something, though lately my thoughts had been on a tonneau cover

what is the underside like? felt, nothing, etc

is the cover weighted at the perimeter? what keeps a good wind from blowing it up?

in the shots, it doesn't cover the entire top etc - is that normal? was it washed and shrank?

Item is pretty light weight. It is more for protecting the interior and keeping it cool/warm than to protect the top itself but it does cover the entire interior and top assembly. I just laid it on there for the pics. The straps on the side hold the sides on. The rear tabs go under the rear deck lid so it is not going anywhere with a bit of wind. Also the tabs will are tight depending on your car fit so theft should be no option unless they really pull it hard. I use it more around the house while the car is outside as I work on garage projects.

I have one of these - and I like it. It's not serious protection, but it does allow the top to be left down with the boot on and still get some interior protection. I wouldn't leave the car parked this way if I'm going to be far from the car, but in the office parking lot, or at home, etc., it's fine.

yeah - just looking for a quick cover - i'll likely still get a tonneau made, but this will at least keep the interior and most importantly, the leather, from gettting sun beaten

If you get a real tonneau made, let's think about two. However, you've raised the challenge bar involved in fabricating a tonneau with the chassis stiffener. Plus - are you really going to put snaps across the windshield edge of the dash?

not sure how i am going to do it yet - may hook into defroster vents much like the bra does - not sure - just thinking at this point - along the windows is a problem too

getting around the brace though is pretty easy - been there / done that

Will the cover fit over the roll bar?

Good question. I don't recall whether or not I used is since the bar was installed. I'll do a test fit and let you know.

Can't do it until the weekend - the cover is not where I am, which is where the car is.

Flash,

Driving home tonight, I noticed that the air vent slots go all along the dash behind the windshield. What about utilizing these slots as a mounting points for the front of the cover? I just can't see adding snaps to the dashtop.

contemplating that - i think i even mentioned it

might work, though the dash is somewhat soft

not too worried though - if i go snaps, i'll use the same ones as the boot cover - i've already worked out the design with the upholsterer

I have no doubt that you'll come up with the right solution, Flash. But, to cast my vote in advance - I'd prefer not using the defroster air vents, as it's tough enough to keep the dash from cracking, and such extra strain would seem to be a step in the wrong direction. Fasteners like those already used for the boot would be nice - although probably a bit of a pain to mount along the inside bottom of the windshield. However, as I said at the start of this, I'm not worried as I know you'll come up with a solution that is right - or you won't do it at all.

this is a concern of mine too - as i said, it's fairly soft - if it can't be done without me being absolutely sure it won't hurt it, then i'll go with snaps

thanks in advance for the vote of confidence - this one shouldn't take too long - this guy is pretty darned fast - i'll get onto it myself when i get back from this weekend - i want it done before the june run
