"Howdy" from Dallas, TX
#1

Okay, so New Yorkers living in Texas really have to struggle to use the word Howdy in a sentence, and then we do sound stupid when we do it. Doesn't really roll off the tongue for us.

Anywho... I have to be upfront and admit I only own "older 968s"; i.e., 951s.

Got my first when going to buy a family Audi and instead came home with an '86 944 turbo in Crystal Green Metallic. My ex and I were hooked. and while I'd been in NASCAR (seems like 2 lifetimes ago) and NHRA, driving lefts and rights were almost too fun. We got hooked up with PCA and then the next summer went to Al Holbert's place in PA and purchased every single single part that went on a M637 factory-prep racer (actually they wouldn't sell us the steering wheel or their cage, but otherwise it was every part). And yes, we cheated like everyone else, and our "stock" motor blew up in March 1989. Rebuilt the engine, took out the cage, fixed the carpet and let it be as a very highly strung street car. Yes - still have it - 76,000 miles on it.

Replaced it for the track with an '87 951 that has gone through many iterations over the years since first constructed in '89. Currently it remains a 2.5 liter, strung out to about 400 RWHP at about 19 lbs, though I rarely run beyond 16/17 on most days (yes, I'd like it to last!). Took it to bare chassis 2 years ago and it was a new challenge to build it up from scratch. Yes, I learned how to paint the engine bay, or perhaps how not to, given I'd have used LOTS more clear if I did something like this again. It is a slim vehicle, about 2520 lbs dry, making it around 2770 as I balanced it with me (okay, 4 40-lb bags of salt) & half-ish tank of fuel. GT3 class has a 2700 lb limit for a 2.5 liter, but all of a sudden either I've gotten too old (sigh) or the darn thing has too much sweat in it to go beat it up quite yet.

Lots of parts from the many rebuilds this vehicle has gone through, so will hopefully be able to post some of them for a new/good home.

And this is definitely enough typing for 6 am in the morning.

Looking forward to membership,
Dave

Since I read that one isn't supposed to place pics here, that'll wait until I get approved, etc.
