Well ... in the normally dry area known as SoCal we have been getting a lot of rain the past few days. Probably over 5-6 inches, which is somewhere near 1/2 of the normally annual rain fall. I've been driving the 968 in the rain ... I know... wish I didn't have to, wouldn't have except my other car is down. Found:
1. the rear hatch wiper actually came in handy a few times, was useful so I could see better especially reversing.
2. the rear hatch defogger draws quite a bit of power. I can hear the fuel pump noise significantly drop in tone when I turn on the defogger. And the volt meter drops also, looks like about .5 or .7 volts.
3. a few drips from the sunroof, nothing bad, I don't think the drains are plugged, just a bypass leakage during heavy rain while stopped in traffic, I think the channel got full.
4. Many SoCalers apparently don't know what rain is, since their driving behavior continues as if it is dry with full sunshine. Most likely years of Coppertone has seeped into the brain. During one 15 mile stretch of freeway yesterday, it took about 50 minutes and passed 3 separate accidents, spinout with 3 car crash, jack-knifed 18 wheeler, stalled car.
5. I had to open a window just a crack sometimes, to get more airflow for defogging purposes. Opening the passenger side is safer since the windshield wipers drag water to the driver's side door / window. Remember to quickly close window when the jacked up pickup truck with a 2 foot lift and monster tires passes you on the right at 90 mph.
6. The "instant defogger" button is great, defogs the windshield real quickly, it seems to have some kind of instant-heat mode.
7. I kept the driving lights on all the time, but had to add the headlights after a couple of people almost customized the side of my car while they were trying to pull into my lane without thoroughly checking if the lane was clear.
Flash's area may have gotten 7-10 inches of rain, I've been checking the regional doppler radar. I hope he put the top up.
