Forza 2 car list
#1

They finally released some info about what cars will be included in the next Forza game. Here is the list of Porsches:

1955 Porsche 550 Spyder

1970 Porsche 914/6

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3

1987 Porsche 959

1989 Porsche 944 Turbo

1995 Porsche 911 GT2

2003 Porsche Carrera GT

2003 Porsche Boxster S

2004 Porsche 911 GT3 (996)

2006 Porsche Cayman S

2007 Porsche 911 Turbo (997)

2007 Porsche 911 GT3 (997)

As you can see there are no 968s, yet again Not even any 928s! However, being a partial list, there may yet be some hope.

Still a better representation then every other game I’ve played. Test Drive Unlimited, as addictive as it is, has ZERO P-cars. Actually you can download one ( the RUF RGT) but you have to buy it first w/ xbox points. What a rip.

Forza Motorsports 2 for the Xbox 360. It's Gran Tourismo's competition. Some say it's even better than the GT games

IMO there’s not even a close 2nd to GT4. All of the other games feel arcadeish. Whereas level of detail and real life driving characteristics on GT4 where carefully programmed and simulated (watching the making of that game gave me a deep appreciation for it). I assume by GT5 the sound of the cars will be closer to real life making the gaming experience even more realistic.

Oh yeah, the GT games have far better sound (and music) than Forza. Honestly the sole biggest reason why I got Forza 1 was to be able to drive the 944 turbo. Which is the closest to the 968 in any game (I never had or played NFSTongueU for the PS1).

As for the simulation, I think even though the GT games are better, they did a really good job on Forza considering it is the first one.

Looks like they've only added a few new. I have a a fairly tricked-out 951 that's fun for blasting around the track.

I've notice the competition can get nasty in the advance races and when you lead for a few laps. It's similar to PG2 were they will use the pit manuever on the last lap - obviously that wouldn't be allowed in real life.

i don't get it - a game? i guess i just don't get this whole "video game" thing - i get bored in a matter of a minute or so - i know a lot of people really love these things, but it just escapes me, and this is not trying to be insulting or judgemental toward those who do - i just don't get it

i've been in flight simulators, and they are not much like being in the cockpit (been in those too) - to me, even those lack the necessary gravity effect (including the multi million dollar ones that move and try to simulate it - helped design some of those for the air force) - i can't imagine sitting on your couch playing a game being any better

one of the hardest things to do in a race car is work against the forces that are slamming you around in the car - pitting your body, strength, agility, reflexes, and stamina, coupled with strategy and anticipation, against others trying to do the same is the root of the fun for me - the risk of death and injury is an attraction too - i'm an adrelaline junky for sure, and having to focus and perform on that extreme edge is intoxicating - these games seem to isolate you from most of that

maybe i'm just too old - i remember when pong first came out - maybe someday somebody can explain it to me though - perhaps someday i'll ahve somebody bring one over and we'll plug it into the 133" screen and see how that is

how involved can you get with the car's setup? how accurate is it? maybe it could be used as a test simulator?

Well my reason for playing game is being able to do something I can't do in real life. At least not easily or right away. I could go to the Nurbergring, but it will cost me, and I won't have an empty track all to myself if I want. I can't just get into a Carrera GT and go all out down the back straight.

It's all about escape from the real world There are just not enough good roads up here, speed limits are way too low, and cops can come around the corner at anytime =/

well, i certainly get that - i guess i've either been lucky, spoiled, or just need the adrenaline, or the physical stress, or all of the above - there is no denying the attraction to millions of people though, and i was not trying to be insulting to those people - it just doesn't do it for me

but then many of the things that do it for me, most people don't get, so i guess that's fair

but hey - i could change - on the big screen, it might feel different

I've just started doing DEs, and a guy who started just slightly before I did (and is light-years ahead of me in his rate of progress) swears by a PC-based simulator called GTR2. He's a pilot, so is used to simulators, but claims that running GTR2 , using his Logitech force feedback wheel/pedal assembly, has helped his driving a lot. Does anybody here have any experience with GTR2 vs Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsports? From what I've been able to glean from the gaming forums (I'm with Flash in that the whole gaming thing belongs to the generation after mine, so this is highly foreign territory to me) is that GTR2 is far and away the best driving simulator, while the gaming console-based games are just that, games, more geared toward entertainment value than racing simulation, though I'm not sure I completely understand the distinction.

My issue with springing for GTR2 is that it would require my getting a new, vastly more powerful computer, and I just don't need one, and can't quite justify springing for over a grand for a computer just to play the simulator. So I'm waiting for one of the console-based games/simulators to catch up to GTR2, because my kids could at least play other games on the Playstation/Xbox/Wii, or whatever console I would end up getting. Plus even the most expensive fo these consoles is much cheaper than a new high end PC.

So, any thoughts on how the best of the new console-based games/simulators stack up to GTR2? I can only make it to the track a handful of times a year, so I would be interested in setting up a simulator if it will help hone my much-in-need-of-improvement skills. I even bought a new Hot Seat Racer GT chassis I saw on eBay (it was a smoking deal I couldn't pass up), but it's sitting in a box in my room while I ponder my options. Thanks.

hmmm - seems to me that for the price of the game, the system, the computer, the pedals, etc, you would have at least a half dozen really good track events

get the kids into real sports and out from in front of the idiot box

and there's my age showing again

Well GTR2 from what I've seen is a racing simulator, with real racing rules: Flags, pit stops, qualifying, penalties for bad drving, etc. Hell, you can even do a 24h hour race, with real sunrise and sunsets. You can tweak the car up the yingyang too. So I can understand how it might be able to teach someone how to race better.

The console games are more for entertainment. It's like compare Microsoft Flight Simulator to X-plane. X-plane is far FAR better at simulating aircraft (the FAA even recognises it for basic certification). Where as MS flight sim is more of an entertainment tool, even though it too is a good simulator.

yeah - that would be good for a weekend - but then so is a good driver school

great for procedures and such for sure, and for making you think and get into the right mindset for what you have to do on the track - but again, so is a good driver school

i think i'm still missing something here - i think somebody needs to show me this stuff and what it can do

It's not so much the money, it's the time away from the family to drive the 200 miles to the nearest track, and spending the entire weekend there, that keeps me from going more often. I'm speculating that spending an hour here and there using a good simulator could be a way to practice the things I've learned at the track between events.

And neither of my kids are particularly into video games; one of them plays them a little, the other not at all. I actually have a wishful ulterior motive that at least one of them might enjoy the simulator, and consequently have some interest in accompanying me to the track when they're old enough to drive. So far, both unfortunatley view my interest in cars as freakish (both my kids are girls - not to be sexist or anything).

But based on Renalicious's comments, it sounds like the PC-based GTR2 is still really the only game in town (no pun intended) for an actual simulator.

Yeah, it's really just an augmentation to real life, and it is what you make of it. You CAN use it to learn how to drive or fly better, but you can also use it to mess around and have a good time. Getting back to the whole idea behing escape.

I love driving my car, and I can't wait for a nice day when I can take it out for a long cruise again. But to get it trackable I'm going to need to spend a lot of money and at least get a new set of tires because the alignment issue chewed up my current set, and I wouldn't pass the safty inspection. Plus I dumped a lot of money into maintenance getting the oil leak fixed. I'm kind of low on funds. Not to mention I also just bought my own place in December, so I'm adjusting to having a mortgage and a whole whack load of new bills. So like Cloud9 mentioned, for a lot of people it's an accessibility thing. Virtually, I own over 50 cars, and I can do them up how I please, take them to 20 different places in the world. Both real and fictitious, where the weather is always nice and sunny. In real life, I have one stock 968, the only tracks close by are mission, and in seattle, and it rains 60% of the time hehe.

Basically this argument can go on forever. Untill you try it out and see what the fuss is all about, there is no sense in trying to explain it But if you do try it, do with with a steering wheel and pedals.

lol - ah - somebody to help at the track - GREAT idea

200 miles? really? wow - i would have figured there would be a ton of tracks there - bummer

no worries - not arguing at all - as i said, i just don't get it - you are absolutely right - i'll have to try it out and see what the deal is - i'm way out of date, and there is a lot of new stuff out there for sure - worst case scenario, i try it, don't like it, and have 2 beers instead of one - woohoo!
