The car has been gone through top to bottom, front to back. The exterior (original paint) was clayed, buffed, polished to a high gloss and sealed with carnauba wax. The interior was totally disassembled: the leather seats were repaired; the carpeting was shampooed; the dash was disassembled, all electrical contacts were cleaned or, where necessary resoldered; and all gauge lights were replaced. New door and trunk seals were installed. Numerous cracked or broken plastic pieces were replaced. The convertible top was dyed and resealed. All engine seals, gaskets and hoses were replaced (no fluid leaks). Everything works as it should, and I would not hesitate to take it on a cross country journey.
I am the third owner of this car. The first owner left the top down during a rain, and although there was no water damage, the carpeting and seat bottom cushions were replaced by the Atlanta Porsche dealership to prevent any future mold problems. The car was then purchased by a naval officer who had the car shipped to Hawaii and then back to the mainland. I purchased the car from him after an independent inspection and had it shipped from California to Minnesota. The car has never been in an accident nor driven in snow.
In addition to the standard Porsche features, the following upgrades have been installed:
* Porsche 18" mesh-style wheels
* Sumitomo Tires (225/40R18 front, 265/35R18 rear) with Porsche logo valve stems
* Blaupunkt high power AM/FM/CD/DVD/USB bluetooth stereo
* Clarion 1" tweeters and 5.25" woofers in doors
* 4x6" Kicker coaxial speakers in rear panel
* Driver and Passenger seat cushion heaters (hi and lo temperature settings)
* Porsche logo floor mats
* Woodgrain dash kit
* Crime Guard antitheft/engine demobilizer system with remote door locks
* Express window kits in both driver and passenger doors
* Sound deadening material added to door panels
* RS Barn stainless exhaust tip
The car has been extremely well maintained and I have all maintenance records since 2004. The following major items were replaced within the last 20,000 miles:
* AC compressor
* front control arms
* tie rod
* struts
* motor mounts
* timing belt
* radiator
* rear crankshaft seal
* convertible top gearbox and cables
* power steering pump
* cruise control module
* battery
* drivers window lift mechanism
* front engine cover
I retired 2 years ago and purchased this car to work on during the winter months. Now that this car is restored, I am ready to find another 968 to work on this coming winter.
