I tossed my old one. I saw no reason to keep it....
A billet replacement is a great idea. When it goes, the engine or trans have to come out to get at it.
The rubber in these apparently deteriorates from too little use and working them hard prolongs their life.. Tips are likely to get driven easily, so the drivetrain doesn't get worked too hard. The two previous owners on mine were women, apparently housewives, who put on only 53,000 kilometres (about 30,000 miles) in 15 years, during which the damper plate was replaced at least once before. So that’s two in about 65,000 kms. Markus Blaszak, who did mine, has a one-legged customer who has tracked an auto 944 (same damper plate) for years with no problem.
Blaszak did two this summer, mine and a 944. He works only on 944/968 (mostly track cars and a race team or two) and is happy to pass on info: Blaszak Precision Motorsports, Inverary, Ontario 613.353.7012. mblaszak@kos.net. He’s also the Registrar for the local PCA and at the track a lot. Very knowledgeable.
