Flash-flood
#1

Having just self-appointed myself as Bob's therapist, in that new capacity the first order of business is to insist that Flash takes a break from 968 related STUFF ( except the forum ) and regains his life, even if only temporarily so.. Six months would be the prescribed break, unless we all want to live with the guilt of having contributed to the unavoidable outcome: Bob being picked up by CHP while walking on the San Diego freeway's center divider at high noon, wearing a bathrobe, fuzzy slippers and engaging in loud debates with discarded beer cans along the way. So no organizing or participating in fun runs, no second batches of SCs, no additional D1 mods, no anything ! Well, until 2011 anyway Then we'll complain about your absence from all of this, but seriously.. take a friggin break or the next mod you'll need to devlop is a pacemaker

You hear me Bob ?! Bueller ? Bueller ?

It's better he works on the 968. Otherwise he will be on the Mercedes forum figuring out how to modify the SL, at which point the wife will be talking about divorce.

Sometimes in life, you need a reason to get up in the morning - a passion that keeps you going.

Never having met Flash, I for one would deeply mourn his loss from the 968 community. If you stop doing things - you have time to reflect, which makes you question your current path and the things that you see as important in your life.

The best thing about a 968 is that you can tinker and play with it to improve it a little by little. The 246 rwhp naturally aspirated 968 for sale is awesome - how do you get roughly 300hp at the flywheel from a 968?

Regardless what Flash does, his contribution to the community that owns a 968 cannot be understated - this is an excellent forum, with an excellent user community. As a dedicated owner, I am thankful that people like Flash are out there - he is an inspiration and a pioneer for all of us. He does what most of us only think about.

As per the Supercharger thread - he has put in enormous effort to deliver a product firstly for himself and then has unselfishly put more effort in to help those on this forum.

As one of the most experienced and knowledgable people on a 968 - Flash gets his unfair share of knockers. The best we can do is support him in his efforts.

This forum is effectively a team. We need to support each other - or the passion will die.

Flash - if you want a break - take one - if you don't, then don't. But as per above, from one 968 owner to another - thanks heaps for you help - it is very appreciated. Everyone has an opinion and has the right to it - to those that help others, you deserve our sincere gratitude and support. Your alturism is an example to us all.

As a partner, I know that it is practically impossible to make Flash do anything he doesn't want to do. When he takes on a challenge he will attack it from all angles and work on the design until it is absolutely perfect and without compromise. That type of dedication is both a blessing and a curse. I have seen Flash change an entire design because a finish wasn't satisfactory or a clip could be placed in a more elegant location.

I would be disappointed if Flash gave up completely, but the SC project was an overwhelmingly difficult challenge. So Flash, my advice is to pick a smaller battle and give yourself a long schedule on the next project. DON'T TELL ANYONE WHAT THE NEXT PROJECT WILL BE AND DON'T MAKE ANY ANNOUNCEMENT/PROMISES!

Sometimes I need to take a step back from the 968 thing and recognize that this is a hobby, it can become very consuming at times, especially when planning an event or in Bob's case, developing a mod (or both).

Flash, drink a Newcastle in the shade and listen to some tunes, then get back to work, there miles to go before you sleep...

JMHO,

Jay

lol - thanks dan - sorry i bent your ear (and anybody else's lately)

the last few months have been overwhelming - the supercharger project has been far more involved than i intended it to be, and never should have gone beyond my own car - the result will be that i will have spent over $20 to supercharge my car by the time i am done - i was prepared for every bit of $10k, but double that was not part of my plan

additionally, the rest of the "business" of making parts has been complicated and time consuming of late - vendors have been dragging their feet, material has been difficult to locate, costs have been going up

all of this was supposed to be a hobby and nothing more - i wanted things that either did not exist, or were not exactly as i wanted them - i chose to make my own, and then expanded that to make some of them available to others - i made this mistake 25 years ago when i had my shop - i let the hobby become a business, that ultimately prevented me from enjoying my hobby

the same thing is happening now - yet another summer is going by without me being able to drive my car - when i came to the conclusion friday that i was not going to make it to an event in my own back yard, i drew a line in the sand

i am going to complete the fulfillment of the orders i have now for all superchargers and other products i have purchase orders for

once that stuff is out the door, i am shutting down for AT LEAST 6 months

there will be no more production runs of anything - no more superchargers - no more braces - nothing - pete has what he has and that will be all for at least 6 months

there will be no further development of new parts, at least not for sale - there may never be

bottom line is that i need to focus on some other things (like my real job) - i have lost at least $100k in real business over the last year and a half by allowing this hobby to take over my life - that stops now

rest assured that i am not leaving the community - however, i probably won't be around nearly as much - in the past i just left the board up on one monitor, and so it was easy to comment or respond quickly - that won't be happening anymore - i'll check in a couple of times a day, and that's about it

i hope everybody understands, and i will continue to participate, but i need to find some balance

Theres probably not another person in the last 15 years that has done more to develop new products for these cars than yourself Flash. The time you have spent helping all of us thru the problems both big and small on these cars has been and continues to be much appreciated. Just knowing you'll be around to chime in now and then is enough for me buddy. Take care of business, enjoy your cars.............go put in a sound system somewhere.............we'll all be here when you get back.

WE all need balance in our life. You are appreciated here but its only a car. I hope the adjustments you make give you peace, or at least piece of mind.

I hope you have a fantastic period of "down time". Take some elses meds, sit back, watch the grass fires and go for a lazy day of fishin' in the LA river; all with a tall glass of red of course.
Although I am glad that I contacted Pete and told him I wanted one of the unsold SC's from round 1 . I fear you may be like the proverbial high school student who "takes a year off" and then never does come back to University. I'm not prone to panic attacks but I think I felt one coming on

We'll just throw up a signal in the sky when we need him. Maybe the silhouette of an bone-stock 968 supported securely on jackstands.

lol - the wife is already planning vacations for me, now that i won't be doing any more of this car stuff - she's got about every other weekend booked from now until april, a couple of week long vacations along the way, and a 3 week mediterranean cruise next summer

good thing too, because i think my real work is going to keep me pretty busy for quite a while

Good one Scott!

Just think how exclusive the D1 SC club will be. Channeling Jeff - "1 of 10"

Nice!!!

And 1 more thing. You need to find a little time to DRIVE the car. That's a key aspect of the hobby dude !

Flash: "lol - i wouldn't know what that looked like." that's funny. maybe the silhouette should instead be a blown motor with someone else's SC kit on it.

I suppose the cruise will be on the USS United States which is now being renovated. The United States set the world speed record as fastest cruise ship ever built.

Honestly, I can't imagine you being stuck on a ship for 3 weeks. Probably rip down the motors and get another 2-3 knots/hour out of her.

I'm already noticing your new laid back attitiude, hope its working for you.

+1 on the chairs overboard. Ask my wife, it takes a LOT to make me laugh and that did!
Jealous on S. Italy; Done the whole middle from Chinqua Terra to Venezia but have yet to conquer the south (past Roma).
