First Time Porsche Owner
#21

Plus I have one additional flaw that may not exist for everyone -- each time I found the right one and was on the threshold of buying another Porsche I got too excited and I was no longer an objective decision maker.  I just wanted the car so bad, there was little interest in finding flaws.    So the PPI was extra useful.

absolutely is worth it, assuming you are starting with somebody willing to do it, or has the foresight to know that if they don't find something, and they are going to be the one doing the service, that you would be asking them "why didn't you see this?"

that is the problem with most PPIs.  they are done from afar, and the shop knows they will never hear from you again.  sucks.  i guess they don't realize that this is a very small community, and word gets around.

Hey All,

Thanks for all the replies/comments/support. Its been quite exciting as every time I look I continue to find another problem with with car. I have to agree that a PPI is not the correct path unless the mechanic can be trusted. I would have been better off paying a trusted Porsche friend to fly over to check it out. The shop that inspected the car in Annapolis MD, Tif's Foreign Car Care, is definitely one to stay away from. When confronted about all the obvious issues they missed all I got were explanations why its ok. How its common for cars of that age to have door replaced and how the car can be worth alot as the market is going up for them. After pushing them they told me they would send me a check. And they did, but for half of the $540 I paid. I guess they decided they did the compression check so they should keep some of the money. In the end, they gave me $300 back for a mistake that will cost me an extra $2k (if I dont find more issues). My mission now will be to inform the public of this shop. The last thing I would want is someone else to make the same mistake I did.

In an effort of offset my cost I am looking to sell some parts or the car to replace them with cheaper ones. First I will be selling the turbo RS wing it has installed. It has a carbon insert with the supports painted black. The black paint is of poor quality but its not horrible. :Let me know if your interested. Later I will be selling my 18" tubro twist wheels for 17". Anyone selling cup 2 wheels, let me know.

I have also started a website/blog that will cover every step of my restoration of this car. Check it out and subscribe. www.project968.org

Thanks!
