First ride impression
#1

H01Y $H1T!!!!

Finally got my 968 running (water pump died right after I got it) and that’s all I can say.

Great power (variocam feels almost like a very low boost turbo), fantastic ride (M.B like) and of course the awesome looks (that’s what got me to start with)

My 93 is all stock everything works (save the rt rear speaker), and I’ve driven 924/944/911, but never drove a 968 before and “OMG” it is wonderful. This car will be with me a long time, and so will my Smile.

Welcome to the world of Porsche. !! It`s a wonderful driver, and yes I have to que up in your worship of this car.

I`ve driven Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, 911 turbos, Bmw 645/650, jaguars, but noone can compare to this car !! Why ? Because the balance and combination of weigt/engine/grip in this car is AWESOME. I live in Norway with lots of narrow roads full of turns. IT`S GREAT !! Because then I can really get out of the car what it`s ment for; PURE DRIVING FUN !!

968rz welcome to the forums and your new baby

I read a Porsche brochure on the 968 that we actually do get some boost with our intake design. . . so the mini-turbo may not be such a delusion after all ??!!?

fun fun fun

I'll have my 68 delivered next week. Finally found the one I wanted, a clean 94 black on gray 968. Its also nice to see this board growing so welcome and congrats. I'm a pretty new member, not to many posts but I've been all over this board and very pleased with all of the positive remarks on the 68.

I'm curious as to how most feel about the throw of the shifter. I found the travel to be a bit long and going into 3rd and 5th required a little more attention do to the wide crosses. The 951 I drove was the same way. Do you find it a bit awkward?

Well, I don`t find it awkward. I hav long arms...(kidding). No I think the short

shift you have on a lot of VW/Audis and other cars are a bit "stopping". How should I explain that ? When you shift gears on your 68 the shifter arm sort of flow with the movement of your arm when you are lifting it from the steering wheel to shift. If you have shorter shift, you have to "stop" on your movement, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I have no troubles with that.

And yes, this is a GREAT forum. I`ve gotten lots of tips and winks in here...

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, I`m soon going on a 4 hour trip on narrow roads with my car ! JYIIIIPPPIIIEEE !!

I hate the long throws on this car, really my only complaint about the 968, but I don't find them awkward as I have long arms (not kidding). Since I sold the S2000 a few months ago the long shifts don't bother me quite as much as there is no constant reminder of how much better it could be.

I have the Kokeln shift kit in one of the 968s and it really made no difference in the throws other than to make them notchy. 944Racing unfortunately stopped making their shift kit before I could pick one up.

Of course I'll just be happy to shift the one car again after the flywheel and clutch replacement is done.

I'm also leaving behind a japanese sports car and trading up for German engineering. The shifting was the only part of the driving experience that I didn't enjoy more then my current sports car but I know that its something that I'll get use to in a matter of days.

Will post pics when my ride gets here and sorry for jacking your post RZ.

Nice. I'm no big fan of green but that color looks beautiful, almost looks blue.

Yes it does look blue, but look from a different angle (or light) and its green(er). even stranger my 924 is "petro blue" and is greener than my 968 which is Amazon green. But I love to drive them both

I find that downshifting from fifth or sixth to fourth or third to be difficult sometimes, especially under hard breaking when I have to do it fast. I have shifted from second to fifth accidentally a few times. No track days for me until I get used to finding those middle gears.

there are a few things that can cause this

it could easily be a technique thing - i frequently see people using the wrong grip on the shifter - i see them manhandling the shifter - this frequently causes mis-shift

the correct technique is to have the ball of the shifter in the socket of the palm of your hand, with your fingers resting over the front - use of the fingers is really very minimal, instead just rocking the shifter in the socket of your palm

mechanically speaking, in nuetral, the shifter should come to rest between 3rd and 4th, and be absolutely vertical left to right - also, there should be an 85 degree angle between the shifter and the tunnel, at the rear - this is adjustable

a sloppy lower shifter bushing can cause this problem too
