Howdy from Birmingham
#1

Hi, I'm Chris from Birmingham, Alabama. I'm currently thinking about buying a 968. There's one on Craig's List in Atlanta I've been looking at. I'm aiming toward a Tiptronic so my wife can drive it, so I guess that should keep the initial price down.
Does anyone know if there are some good Porsche mechanics here in Birmingham? I'm assuming so because a lot of people run them at Barber Motorsports Park.

Welcome here, I don't know, but I've heard mixed feelings about the tip tronic Make sure to drive all of the cars and then make up your mind

Hi! Glad to have another SE USA newbie on this forum. I hope you do get a 968, so good luck with your search. I too suggest you try the 6 speed and the tip before making your choice. You know you can always teach your spouse to drive a stick

The color of that Tip in Atlanta would definetly be a great car for your wife to drive, not sure if I would want to drive around in it. It looked fairly clean in the pics, but has some paint and body issues that need to be addressed.

I like the color of the one in Atlanta but was hesitant about the tiptronic.

Welcome mudduck,

There are a few guys on here who track their tiptronic cars...maybe they'll chime in. There are certainly pros and cons. I've considered a tip on occaison for the wife as well. There seems to be quite a few very nice cars popping up for sale. Good luck with the search!

One thousand one
That's basically the difference between a tip and a stick from 0-60. I have a tip. I'm 6'2, weigh 230lbs and am nobody's wife.
For me, the question is not why would anyone buy a tip instead of a manual, but rather, why would anyone buy a coupe when you could have a cab!
Now I've never driven a 968 manual so I can't offer a comparison. I admit I was a little jealous when I read another post mentioning spinning the rear wheels in 1st and 2nd gears which I'll only be able to do on ice.
For me the tip is not a negative. I bought my 968 to take summertime weekend cruises to the beach. It is perfect for that. The only thing I would change is that I need to double tap the gas pedal when I want max acceleration.
With a 968, you can't go wrong either way.
