Dear fellow 968 Forums.com members:
This is a sad announcement in many ways. Yesterday afternoon I helped load my 968 onto a trailer on its way to its new home.
I had driven my 968 for eight years and about 90k miles. Along the way I attended several 968 Gatherings, learned a lot about the car, participated fairly actively on 968 Forums and 968.net before that, and met a lot of great guys and gals.
My 968 was a great car. During my ownership it was carefully maintained and tastefully improved, often through the help of my fellow forum members. In many ways it was superior to my 993. It's roomier, more comfortable, more practical, more fuel efficient, and almost as fast. I'll always love my old 968, as I will the model. They really are special cars and 968 owners are special people.
I'll miss it and I'll miss the camraderie of all of you on this forum. My participation with you over the years has been extremely enjoyable. This forum is really a great place to hang out, as well as a great place to learn about our cars, and get some great help and advice when we need it. Now that I'm a 993 jockey, I play around a little on Rennlist.com and Reutterwerk.com but they really aren't the same.
So, by now my 968 is in its new home in Ohio. I've introduced the new owner to 968 Forums.com and suggested it strongly to him. I'll allow him to introduce himself to you. I hope for his sake he does.

Thanks, Jay and Jim (Anchorman). I really wanted to go to the Hershey gathering this year but I had concert tickets for Fleetwood Mac and my wife would have killed me if I went to a Porsche event instead of going to the concert with her.
Jim (Biotechee), The KDC-X993 is not to be. I waited and waited and when it finally arrived, they didn't have the Sirius receiver units for it. They couldn't even tell me how long the wait would be.
My stereo head unit solution was to swap the Pioneer Premier unit that I had installed in the 968 last year for the older Kenwood unit in the 993. The 968 went to its new home with a good head unit to drive the OEM Hi Fi ten-speaker set-up and I got to keep the Pioneer for my 993. I set it up with sat radio and iPod play and control through the head unit. It also looks very good in the dash.
The sound quality and functionality of the Pioneer Premiere unit is very good. My biggest gripe about it is controls are a little difficult to use. I like simple stuff. Using the remote make it a little easier. Another gripe is the read-out is difficult to see, especially in certain sunlight conditions. It's particularly bad trying to lean over, squint and see it @ speeds over 160. Bummer.
993 update for all: My Carrera is SOOOOOOOOO low compared to my 968 that I really, really have to be careful entering driveways, etc. It's really, really easy to scrape. If I decide to put an RS splitter up front, it'll be an even bigger problem.

Hey Duckman,
Best wishes with the 993- no doubt a spectacular car- just never had enough storage room for me to get one, but I have drooled may a time. No need to leave the Forums, though, especially since the 968 fuel pump relay is a part that begins with 993, right? So much in common that the average joe would never know...

Sad indeed. I hate the farewell letters form the guys that are, IMO, the foundation of the forum. Although I agree that it doesnt have to be goodbye, I know all to well that without the car, the enthusiasm and interest in the forum isn't the same. Your future posts will be missed and thanks for the kind words.
PS- There will come a time when you open your bookmarks, scroll down and see the 968forums link. Your curiosity will get the best of you and you will click it. If for nothing else, just to see what the new post are about. Chances are we'll be looking to find a way to have fixed headlights so we can scrap the motor. Design one will be taking orders for a new 3.2 engine and I'll be banned. When that happens, that is when you log in, just take a moment and say hello.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!
