I recently purchased a late serial number coupe (1995) and it has an Alpine radio in it. I had a conversation with the original owner recently and asked when he replaced the factory unit with the Alpine. His answer was that the car (he ordered it) was delivered with the Alpine. I didn't know that Porsche used anything other than Blaupunkt's or the CR1's (which I think is a Blaupunkt). Anyone else have one with a factory installed Alpine?

the CD-2 radio i had was made by Alpine.

which came with the 10 speaker hi-fi radio option on my 93 968.



according to PET the 1995 had a "7807" (993-645-102-00) radio identified for a radio option.

Yes, that's it. I found it in PET, thanks. Another different item is the absence of the cassette holder and padded cover on the center console. It just has the rectangular tray that also is shown in PET. It looks nice and the hinges on my others were always breaking anyway.

I think that at the end of the production run Porsche might have been running low on parts. I'm told that they stopped production then decided they had enough parts to restart the line for a small run.

The CR-1 is an Alpine unit as well. It is set up with Becker plugs. The Boxsters that replaced the 968 had Becker Radios and those units are a simple swap (same plugs and wiring) to replace the factory Alpine units. No Blaupunkts for these cars.

Thats nice to know, I just replaced my CR-1 this weekend with a Sony unit and hooking up to the stock speaker plugs sucks. I'll post some picks in a day or two.

Interesting stuff. What is the VIN on your coupe? What is the production date (found on the driver's door jam sticker)? I run the 968 registries so it would be interesting to see how your car compares.

The VIN is WPOAA296XSS820307. It was special ordered in the spring of '94, built in October, and delivered in December of '94. Dealer was Len Stoler Porsche in Owings Mills MD. Original owner says that between the time he ordered it and the build date Porsche cancelled the order, then reinstated it. (I think there might have been a problem with LSD supplies).



I had a different '95 M030 coupe about five years ago but it didn't have a LSD, makes a huge difference. I'm a big fan of 968's and 944 Turbo-S's.

Richard, interesting. Although not the highest VIN I have seen your's is definately one of the highest and considered out of the published range of 968s built in 1995. I'll add it to the coupe registry. What is the colors, trans, mileage, and what state are you located in?
