ENgine stuttering and running hot
#1

On my way to work today sitting in traffic my 968 started stuttering. Car was running real hot like up to thrid bar which its done from time to time since if had it. Then the engine starting stuttering i hit the gas it would barly move . Managed to drive it home . Parked it in the drive way. Car got hot again fans kicked on and it starting stuttering again.

Need to know possible problems . my first thought was belts slipping now thinking possible electrical problem . Also forgot to metion it was raining heavily when this occured.

Check and see if there is water in the fuse / relay box under the hood in front of the steering wheel. Water in there could cause problems with both the fans and the fuel supply.

it would have to be a pretty serious electrical problem to cause that - i would think it would show up on the voltmeter or tach - worth checking out for sure though

pull your dipstick and radiator cap (not when hot) and see if there is the tell-tale chocolate milk there - 80% of the time this will be the case if blown - you can still have a leaky gasket with no such evidence, but it less often

Did your CEL come on? If so, take a look at the code(s). If for some reason the DME is getting erroreous input and retards the timing, the engine will run hot. Poor acceleration can be attributed to the lack of timing.

If the head-gasket is suspect, check the oil, coolant and sparkplugs for contaimination. The s/plugs get a funky build-up on the electrode if there's coolant infuction.

i had a major tune up done recently they didnt see anything wrong . Thing is it happend last summer once then bout 2 weeks ago and now the other day seems to just come and go. Voltage meter doesnt realy change . ill have to check the collant and oil tommarow mornin . My engine light does not pop up . Like i said it comes and goes so thats why it has me very comfused. Guess its best to take it to the shop for a closer look.

Checked her this morning . No oil in coolant or coolant in oil . Fuse box was dry and it has rained last two days heavily . Did notice a coolant leak towards the front left of the engine right above the small belt to the left . But the coolant level in the reserve is about where it should be . Started her up today sounded good but didnt actually take for a test drive.

I am far from knowledgable...but if you read my previous posts, you can see that I am slowly but surely replacing parts on my 968 to try restore it back to "new". Seeing I now depend on this car to get to and from work.

My car would shake in heavy traffic (I sit in it at least once a week) from a dead stop thru the first gear and I would have to give quite a bit of gas to get thru the shake...(Which is tough to do when you have ten feet to work with). It no longer shakes...If I had to give a solution...I'd betting it was replacing the Fuel Filter...Mine was never changes, and the dirt that came out, made me believe it was well over due. Or it was because I changed my spark plugs..which I changed on the same day as my fuel filter...I could feel the difference between the type of plugs I was using, and decided to go back with the one that responded better at lower speeds. The plugs I replaced have 4 prongs and more $$$ and boosted great performance...when actually at lower speeds...the car felt sluggish but they were great a high speeds....I am lucky to get a stretch of road to go over 65 mph once a month.

Fuel Filter

Spark Plugs

Fuel Cleaner...(but I wouldn't say this is a solution...but the car is feeling better after each fill up, since changing the fuel filter)

I will be curious if you find out what your solution is...My car doesn't shake any more, but it still feel like crap after sitting in heavy traffic...so I still have issues...but not shakes.

your water pump was leaking, but you weren't losing coolant?

He means the spark was going to ground because water was in the holes connecting the ignition wires to the block (minimal spark at the plugs).
