Formula One commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone is backing a proposed racing series for former Grand Prix drivers.
The concept, according to F1 Racing magazine, would be based around the Porsche Supercup, which runs as a support event in several Formula One Grands Prix during the season, but with 45-year-old-plus retired Formula One drivers competing against each other in Porsche Boxsters.
Ecclestone said he would welcome the series, which would take place on Sunday mornings, ahead of selected Formula One races.
"I think it's an excellent idea, which would have my full support," Ecclestone told ITV- F1's website. "Anything that improves the overall package of a Grand Prix weekend is a good idea. Also, Porsche would love it."
According to ITV, a number of former Grand Prix stars apparently made enquiries about the series.
