Dynamat installation tips for the doors
#21

Hi all,
my experience...the doors will help with the sound from the speakers, it will sound clearer/more detail because (imo), it attenuates themid-range. The back of car will attenuate the road noise from the suspension and will help with sounds that are lower in frequency. Subs are a must for this car.
Luck.....

Cloud,

My midrange drivers were also the victims of dry-rot of the surrounds.
I haven't found a good substitute, and the replacements through Porsche are nearly the cost of a good replacement component system.

I plan to do a full replacement soon.

In the mean time I have been living with replacements for the mid range drivers that I found at Parts Express. They are the wrong impedence and likely the wrong sensitivity, but they fit in the frame and I've been living with them now for about 3 years.

One other thing to consider for the doors.
Last time I opened up the doors I was meticulous about making sure the plastic sheeting was nearly air tight and fully glued down to the sheet metal. This made a big difference in the level of high frequency noise coming through the doors.

i think bose makes 3" speakers that will fit, but not sure about impedence - i have a pair and will check them for size

The speakers are surprisingly inexpensive - my local dealer quoted me about $42; I haven't checked with Sunset yet. FYI, they're part # 944 645 419 00, and they're 8 ohms.

In the rear i found there was a lot of structural metal 'reinforcement' that made dynamatting in the rear quarters (of my cab) almost impossible. Doors were not too bad though. I wrote up my installation in another thread.

One advantage of being old is I do not hear so great anymore so my original speakers and a pioneer radio, sound just fine in my coupe. I do not have to worry about Dyno mat my door panels. But my coupe has the 10 speaker system

The advantage of dynamat-ing the car for the music sound improvement is compelling by itself, but I can tell you that even with that taken out of consideration, just driving a dynamat padded car with the radio off is still a huge improvement in the reduction of road noise and simply gives you the impression of having a newer, more solid car . 75 % placebo effect perhaps, but 25% real impact .

not sure why a cab would be so hard.  there isn't really anything there.  you just have to remove the interior panels, and bingo!  i was able to dynamat the entire side of the car.  it was actually pretty easy.

the trick to this stuff is figuring out how to roll it up so you can insert it into tight areas
