Update:

1) I did stop off at Darryl's and took him up on his kind offer to extinguish the light using his circuit board. Ahh! Nice to have a dark instrument cluster again. But OhNoes! After a week it's back on again.

I have a theory - based on the intermittent fault - it might be a bad clockspring. But I really don't know what I'm talking about. Anyone here know if there are any more likely failure modes compared to others? Would the "delayed reaction" indicate one fault as opposed to others? Same thing happened the last time I had it re-set: drove for a while, then it came back on.

2) As for mac being able to run Durametric: since on and Intel Mac you boot in a perfectly legit windows environment there's no reason why you can't run any windows software perfectly well. At least that's my experience.

OK - would you guys recommend that I order an enthusiasts package? I could probably split the cost with Chris if it definitely works. It's mostly just a cable and the software for your laptop, right? Kinda like "Fast and the Furious" when they have a laptop sitting on the passenger's seat while racing? Is the cable USB or serial?
Thanks for any insight.

cable and software, yes - enthusiast package has a chip in the middle that limits it to 3 cars - otherwise no difference

Any new info to add? 3 Cars would be perfect for me, as the 968 and my ML would both be compatible.

Woops, just read the website, only for Porsche. What a shame. My guess is MB software is very similar.

BTW, has anyone tried to use the software with Parallels or VMFusion? My guess is it would work fine. Everything else I've tried does.

nope - not likely to happen - for whatever reason, there doesn't seem to be any flexibility in pricing

yeah - i was pretty bummed about that too - they want too much money for most people to step up - they want a bunch to upgrade too - it's like they think they're microsoft or something

Do they make you beta test the software, too?

lol - i wouldn't be surprised - it's a great product, but they aren't terribly customer friendly

FYI Some guy (local classifieds) advertised that he had ODBII software to read/reset codes on our cars. He listed $70 as a price (and he has several kits). I thought why not try it out and purchased a kit (OBDII USB cable/ round connector/ software) for $90. Installed it on my computer and it is the Durametric software. I can now reset the airbag light myself. No limit to how many cars you can run on it. I guess our friends from the far east have ripped it off and are selling it here now.

Very interesting, especially since the round connector was purported to be at least 90.00 and unavailable(?).
