Drove my first 6 speed .... WOW!!!

Drove it yesterday. '93 with sport seats and added LSD. Pinion bearing done, all belts and seals done. I've talked to his mechanic (Memphis Motor Werks) who says it is a very well maintained, and tight example. The seller is the second owner, and has had it since '97. He's selling because he just got an '02 C4. He's asking 13.5k, on a 70-80k mile car (has a documented odometer issue).



The good: I was surprised at the difference in the manual and tip cars. I drove

a tip a couple of months ago, and although it was a ratty example,

I was still impressed by the handling, solidity, and overall feel of

968. This car was a different animal. The owner rode with me, and

we drove some in town and then got onto the x-way. WOW...

He told me to get on it, so I did. I've never been in a 4 cyl that pulls

like that, and very few sixes. I don't know if it was just me, or what,

but any reservations/hesitations of 968 ownership went away with

the shifts through that sweet tranny. I'm really hooked now.



The problem: The color combo of black/gray (cosmetically 7/10 in & out). I've

had too many blk cars, got to have a different color.



I will continue to hang out on this forum, and plan on posting my desire for a

specific car here as well as the other forums in 1-2 months. Just wanted to offer

the impressions of a newby.

Thats the color combo I'm looking for! If your thinking of passing this one by please pass along the sellers info to me via email. Its a bit more then I have to spend but sounds like its worth the extra cash.

with $200 invested in teh airbox mod, RSBarn chip, and K&N air filter, you are looking at a significant power gain - So this is just the beginning!

DOH I forgot to ask coupe or cab. It turns out it is a coupe which knocks me out of the running. Bob appears to be a very nice guy and over the phone it sounds like a nice car based on his comments and his mechanics.

I'm not running any of the mods as I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting early fuel cutoff. Just got the new distributor cap and rotor today from paragon, will try those out.



Once I get this behind me then I'm off to the mods. . .



BTW - there is a post by Flash in the 'things every 968 owner must know' forum that has 100-octane locations in California. To get an idea of the difference.

i've been running 91 octane on the stage 2 chip, and you've all seen the numbers - i can't wait to see what it's like with higher octane in there - that's tomorrow

most amazing to me is the smoothness of acceleration, which ( perhaps unfortunately..) does not deliver that blazing speed, powerful push sensation, but then you look at the speedometer and realize you just reached 100+ on a higway on ramp with the car feeling as if it's going 60...and you smile, as you shake your head in awe of what this 4 cyl. is capable of..



from 100 to 160 is where this baby really shines...

Did 160 ( well add or subtract typical 2-3 mph speedo inaccuracy ) twice, both times in the same general area on 101 on my way to L.A. , and the car was rock solid. I do brief 140 + bursts on 280 all the time. Fun stuff. No speeding tickets since 1987 !! Damn modular office furniture, I'm looking for something made of wood to knock on <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> , and there's only plastic everywhere <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



That being said, I never speed in the city ( honestly ! ) If I go 5 or at most 10 mph over the posted speed limit , it's very rare. Just something the moment I get on a freeway that causes little horns to come out of my forehead <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



But that's what our cars were made for anyway - the Autobahn. Not for racing

stoplight to stoplight.
