I wonder who here uses driving gloves on a regular basis when out in their 968? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mellow.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I don't mean "at the track", but rather, "around town"...

I did not use driving gloves when I first got the 968, but when going on the Saturday morning local Breakfast Runs last year, I noticed that I felt more connected when I used my leather gloves. These were the "cold weather type", since it was in April and at 5:30 in the morning it is still rather chilly around here. After a few Saturday runs, I decided to buy proper driving gloves for one of the next outings, but could not find something online that would ship fast enough. Someone at work told me to try the local Tack Shop for horse riding supplies. I found a pair of gloves that have deerskin palms and spandex backs, and decided to give them a try. They work great! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Now I use them all the time! My 24 year old son likes to give me a hard time about it, but I don't care. The leather on my steering wheel is still in mint shape after 87k miles, and I feel that leather on leather will also help to preserve it better than oily / sweaty hands on leather.

I wonder who else will fess up to using gloves (other than at the track)! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

as i started out driving british sports cars, whose heaters are like a mouse breathing on your foot, i got very used to driving gloves, and still use them when it's cold enough

I've been using driving gloves for longer than I can remember. I probably started when I was in the service. I had a pair of deerskin gloves I used in the cockpit, but there were not regulation. The regulation ones were Nomex with a leather palm. The leather covering on my steering wheel is also in good shape, but is also very smooth. The gloves I currently use when driving provide a good positive grip.

Ive been thinking about getting a pair. The older the steering wheels in my cars get, the more oil, and grime from my hands builds up over time. Even if you clean it regularly. Just seems to make sense to me, to have a dedicated pair just for that leather on the wheel. Porsche design makes a pair IIRC.

I have used the black gloves from Leatherglovesonline for 2 years now with no wear, and no bleeding in temperatures from freezing to 110...I highly reccomend these.

Just the opposite here. My 24 year old son just gave me his old driving gloves as he bought a new pair and had them altered because the gaped a little in the back - SHeeesh <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

the only thing about leather driving gloves is that they are extremely dangerous in a fire - they will shrink and burn to your skin, which is exactly why they are prohibited from almost all sanctioned events

Flash, "saviour of our 968's" you are admitting to a leather fetish and also an unsavoury relationship with mice! If your feet were so cold in a British sports car shouldn't you have donned thicker socks?! And also "when is it cold enough in CA to warrant gloves"! But seriously I know what you mean, the steering wheel can feel really cold sometimes ( a lot in winter!) and some hand protection is mandatory, although skin on leather is best!

I have been wearing driving gloves for almost 40 years. Over the years I have endured all sorts of comments. Who cares! They can keep your hands warm. The proper type can give you a good grip on the steering wheel. Although I must admit, this winter it has been so bloody cold here that I have had to forgo them for warmer gloves! Or age is catching up to blood circulation? lol

lol - i used to live in the bay area - it would dip down into the 30s in the winter, and in an mg that's pretty cold



the older i get, the more i need to keep my hands warm - i have a bit of arthritis, have broken a number of bones in one hand, and i also have plastic tendons in one hand, which tend to get stiff when it's cold - makes for a pretty good sledgehammer, but not terribly fun when it's cold



my problem was that any black gloves i would buy would turn my hands black - i'll pick up a set of these and see what happens

At the risk of losing forum members respect, there are some way cool swede gloves from argentenia and Italy that come in different colors. Of course one must have a fashion sense and big ones to wear them.

Guilty admission, but once in a while I wear driving gloves as well; when moisture causes the steering wheel's leather to feel a bit clammy ( not sure if that's the correct term ) I'll put them on, but still feel a bit strange wearing them as if I'd need to complete the outfit with a plaid cap, a big scarf and driving some British convertible.. otherwise it's just a bit out of place. And yes, they're made in Italy, of deerskin, and stupid-expensive

I wear them whenever its cold out or if I am going for a spirited drive. I also wear gloves when I am working in the yard, refinishing furniture, or working on the car. I hate getting my hands all nicked up, which I did all the time when I was younger. Seems like they were always bleeding from a cuts, abrasions, or chemical burns.
