Drink Cup Holder
#1

I am not the discoverer of this product as it was Joe ? (I met him at the get together here in Beaverton Or with 4 of us) but i just put it into my car. I got it from Amazon.com it is called an "Adjustable Drink Holder made by Nova part # CH-1000.Iit is bacically a 4 inch square box that is about 3/4 inch thick when folded. Opening it up gets you a bottom tray to catch drips and an adjustable clip on top to allow different bottle/cups to be inserted. I used a 7/64 inch drill to pre drill holes and then used # 6 FLAT HEAD MACHINE THREAD SCREW TO ATTACH IT TO THE PASSENDGER SIDE OF THE SHIFT TUNNEL JUST IN FRONT OF THE PASSENDGER SEAT. WHEN CLOSED YOLU HARDLY SEE IT WHEN OPENED I FINALLY HAVE A DRINK HOLDER.

Not to hijack the thread but I had a Boxster come into the shop last week and saw a great cup holder.....no drilling, no modifications. It slides under the floor mat and appears to be very stable.

I did a little poking around and found it on a couple of VW sites, a MINI site, etc. Not sure who the actual manufacturer is, but so long as you're not moving the seat constantly, it should be a great solution.

That IS cool. I love the Wedge, but it's arguable in the passenger's way.

I really like the idea that Darryl posted, it looks like it would be plenty stable, and you can move it around to your preferred location, no permanent mounting, etc. If I had it to do over, I think this would have been the best solution.

In the absence of pics, I am guessing William's cup holder is similar to what I chose as in the pics below. This also works really well, yes had to drill a couple of holes, but I like that this approach is quite out of the way, kinda hidden, doesn't interfere with anything. (passenger must hold their own cup!).

Previous owner had installed (2) of those in my 968. They work great, but... the problem is that he installed them on the "map pocket" of each door. When not in use, they do not pose an issue, but the driver-side one is in the way when you need to use the clutch! I will be moving it to the passenger side of the "tunnel", as mentioned in the first post and pictures in the 5th post (great plug for "that" coffee co.!). The cup-holder does not present a problem when installed on the "map pocket" of the passenger-side door.

Until your passenger gets out and slams the door with the cup still in the holder... My kids do this to my truck all the time, and there's no small amount of Dunkin' Coolatta on my rear carpets as a result. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I looked up this Nova cup holder CH-1000. It looks the picture in post 5 except it's for mounting on tubing. Are you able to remove the tubing mount easily to side mount on the tunnel with screws?

Mmm hmm, those are nice. I've got one, now I just need to make up the aluminum bracket to go under the console.

Those are much more secure. With mine, it has 2 arms that fold in and out a bit to fit various sized cups, and those arms can let go if the item is heavy enough and the corner Gs are high enough.

Bob,

Any plans to offer the bracket as a D1R product?

lol - never thought about it. most people choke on the price of the cupholder. i didn't care what it cost, as it was the cleanest looking solution.

Yes the Nova ones were the ones I found at Amazon and the pictures that "Booster" put up the the same way I mounted mine. The only difference was mine was in Black. Regarding the question of tube mounting that mount is easily dismounted to mount on a flat surface. The Nova has adjustable fingers as shown in the 2nd photo of Boosters pics. great for different size glasses or bottles

Darryl - I've looked around and can't find that "under floor mat cup holder" anywhere. I like it!!!

Any other ideas on where to look?
