Cup Holder
#1

While my 968 isn't a daily driver, most mornings I drive it I still need some form of caffeine. The lack of a cup holder is a sore spot, but I saw this little gem advertised in the Porsche magazine, and thought I would give it a shot. Turns out it works pretty well. It IS in the way and you have to reach behind it to turn the key, but once driving, it can be positioned just exactly out of the way of shifting or my right knee. Not a bad little buy for $20. Also works pretty well as a catch-all for pens, business cards, etc...

I was just about to buy a folding cup holder to put in the passenger footwell but I like yours. Is that chain maille? How manly is that, I'm in King Arthur.

Now where my P-wench.

I just bought the folding cup holder for $6. My other one was broken by a guy I was taking home from IMA. It goes on the left hand side of the tunnel on the passenger side. Very handy and folds up out of the way when you remember to close it which I diddn't do.

I like the wedge as its completely removable. Hides behind the passenger seat till needed. However, I do feel the plus side to the fold down is that, if your cup is full and spills, it goes on the floor mat and not the seat.

cupholders are a real problem in this car - not a lot of options for a location that does not get in the way of something

i did recently see an interesting mounting of the cupholder i have, and it put it in a better spot than was designed, but for the life of me i can't remember it well enough to do it now

bva - was that you?

The "hanging basket o' chain mail" looks good for cans and skinny cups - although knowing me I'd turn a corner and dump half my drink into the DVD slot of the stereo.

The "Wedge" holes are way too large for my coffee mugs, so I bought a black Koozie, cut two 1" tall rings out of it, and contact-cemented them into the topmost level of the Wedge. Shazam. [Image: cool.gif]

it actually has two omni-directional hinges on it, so it sways around turns to keep your drink in the cup...

I do not doubt the cup-holder's finesse - it is mine I call into question! [Image: wink.gif]

What is this fasination with cup holders??? its getting the the point that the new car info book spends as much time discussing the design if the 'beverage holder' as it does on the performance of the car.....jeeze guys, 'dont drink and drive' cos you will spill some.....

LOL I was able to live by that philosophy for about a month. I love coffee. And on many of my 68 outings i'll come across a coffee house. I'll pop in, grab a cup, sit outside for a bit then continue on with Latte in tow. Makes for a nicer drive IMO.

not much of a chance of driving a convertible in southern california without a bottle of water - gotta have a cupholder

Nothing like a warm cup of coffee on an early morning drive. I know cup holders are frowned upon in the Father Land but far too often I have been glad "my boys" have already had offspring cuz there is nothing like a hot lap spill to make you cringe

I now have 2 extra fold up cup holders (don't ask how). Just send me address via E-Mail. They are black and free.

Wait a minute. there is a reason that we don't have cup holders. Watching a show about Porsche, the design team said that they believed that drinking while steering and shifting was not what they wanted spirited Porsche drivers to do while tearing it up on the roads. they did not feel that a Porsche should be an eating/drinking area, but a driving environment.

I agree; Just get your coffee at drinking temp and drink it on the way back to your car.

For water, the bottle can rest on the pass seat with the cap on tightly.

It is not as if you can't stop somewhere when you get thirsty; this also lets you stretch your legs.

Any of the cup holders that I have ever seen look like an added on piece of crap, and after all, if you are willing to put something into your 968 that looks as poor as these cup holders look...whats next, bumper stickers or maybe a plastic set of balls hanging from the rear....oh wait, I have it...fuzzy dice from the rear view mirror!

Make it better, prettier or faster; cup holders in a 968 Porsche do neither of these.

Brian, slow down, relax. Cup holders are not the end of the 968 world. One does not drive Porshces in a "spirited manner" all the time at least I don't. As a daily driver for a lot of us time spent in traffic or doing errands a drink along side is appreciated. I do believe that newer Porsches have cup holders. I can understand not having one in a GT3 RS. Then again race car drivers have them in the form of a tube thru their helmet. Somehting must be holding the drink somewhere in the cabin. That's a fact.

Obviously designed in a place that has no In-n-Out Burgers .

i don't know about any of you, but when i do some "spirited" driving the last thing i want is a bottle of water flying around the cabin - i have not figure out how to keep that thing in place without a cupholder - one tap of the brakes and it is down on the floor out of reach, making it very dangerous to get to - not having it handy in 100 degree weather (like we have here) is almost as dangerous - getting dehydrated really decreases your attention

I make sure to drink all my beer before I get in the car - no need for any cup holders at that point.

I kid, I kid.

I think cup holders, in general, are very beneficial. What I do find is that many of the ones I have seen in cars nowadays are really not designed well. I really haven't needed a holder in the 968. I don't drive it enough to warrant some sort of permanent or semi-permanent solution and I need to agree with Brian here- everything I have seen specifically for the 968 looks like crap IMHO. When I do bring something in the 968, it is either a bottle of water or soda, and has screw top. I just put it between my legs and I'm good to go... Keep your perverted comments to yourselves!

Wasn't the 968 defined as a "Touring" platform which implies longer drives? In any event, a car designed with "Comfort Seats" implies you're going to be in the car for a while, and to me that implies something to drink...
