Door check. How is it SUPPOSED to work

New to the 968 so I'm unsure how this part should properly work. Most car doors open up and have initial resistance when the door is half open and then the door reaches the end of the door check. Call it two stages. My doors sort of fly all the way open very easily. There is that 1/2 open point but the resistance is hardly enough to stop it from swinging all the way open. I don't want to waste my money and buy new door checks if its just the way they are. On the other hand I don't want to put any more dents in my wife's XC90. Any thoughts?

Sounds like they are operating normally, by the way, those suckers break too...

The doors on my '92 and prior '94 both operate in the same manner as described on your car.

My 93 doors are the same, very little resistance in the middle and I tend to hold them at the end so they don't bounce.

Here's my deal. Mine both have resistance in the middle and the checks will hold the door there. The passenger door check will hold the door fully open also. The driver's door will not - it falls back to the center position. I'm guessing the passenger door operation is correct and the drivers check is possibly worn?

As chudson mentioned, the passenger door is operating correctly...

My drivers side was behaving as he described so I replaced it which restored the 'full out holding' position & provided noticeably better mid-point resistance.

Of course, as I'm one of the AR types I'll be replacing the passenger side now so they match...lol
