Not sure if this is what was anticipated for the "That Sweet Sound" section, but this seems the most relevant section for this topic.
So, does anyone else play an instrument? I play guitar in a couple of bands. One of the attractions of the 968 for me was that it was a two-seat rag top with room for a guitar and amp. I'm wondering if the combo of cars and guitars is unusual. My favorite automotive writer, Peter Egan in R&T, also plays guitar in a band.

Im a DJ/producer. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ninja.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Bout 19 years now. I made my living as a promoter for quite some time. I can already here some of you saying right now....thats not music, or thats not an instrument. Of course, I would beg to differ, and so would the concepts of music theory. Looks easy to someone who hasnt tried it, but there is certainly great skill to it.

I have both a guitar and a 5 string banjo. I've been trying to teach myself how to finger pick the banjo and how to play a little Hawaiian Slack Key on the guitar. I find that my hands these days are getting stiff and I have to soak them in hot water to get loosen them up.

Yeah, I was actually a chem major in college, and was able to attend a school for aeronautical engineering in high school. Thats a whole nother story though. Music was my real passion in life....and really...who wouldnt want to party like a pseudo-rock star for a living given the chance? LOL The electronic music industry has changed dramatically in the last few years. Its a tough sale in the states, and vinyl production is pretty much non existent any more. Everything has gone digital. I never had much desire to be a pro DJ, its pretty much a hobby. The spotlight was never much for me, just not my style. The last production company I formed fell apart about 2 years ago. We just dont see eye to eye any more. Creative differences I guess you could say...meh politics. Its been a pretty amazing adventure in retrospect, and Im very fortunate to have the oppurtunities Ive had. My first paying gig was in 96'. Ive been pretty much living off my savings the last couple years, with the occasional staging job here, or there, and some consulting work. Success is fleeting in the industry, and its hard to start working for some one else once youve been successful for so long working for yourself. Nothing lasts forever though, and I need to get back into something soon. Most of my friends from back in the day have moved on to LA, and are doing pretty well. I really dont care for socal though...at least as a residence. Id really like to work in Europe for a while, electronic music is huge there. Im moving to norcal this week, looking to put another crew together up there, but LA has the market really....we'll see. Im always trying to blaze my own trail, but my just have to go where the market dictates.

Blazing a trail is tough, but sometimes the advantage of being the only game in town works too. I may end up in LA....either way its better than Phoenix, and its getting hot here again. I may even change directions all together. My aunt owns a vineyard in Sonoma, always work there. My cousin does flooring in Ukiah, again work there too. Ive just gotten spoiled I guess working for myself. Like Arnold says..Caleefornia..there's plenty of room at the top. Hahaha. Im really blessed, and grateful to have even been able to have success in the music industry at all. Would certainly like to continue in that direction though. Ive been giving my offers in LA serious thought lately.

I play and teach music for a living. I have taught music at every grade level and presently teach middle school band in Central New Jersey.
I have had some great experiences as a player, clarinet primarily. A few years ago I played in an orchestra featuring Julie Andrews. And a few years before that, played onstage with the Moody Blues. Ordinarily, though, it's mostly classical stuff with orchestra, and some chamber music mixed in to feed my musical soul. This April 28th I play the Brahms Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano, in a church in Lafayette Hill, PA. If anyone around would like to attend, here's a link to the church website.

Scott, that's impressive. I have played Clarinet and Baritone Saxaphone in my younger years. Would still like to learn Cello so I could sit outside of restaurants and movie theaters with a hat on the ground in hopes of earning 968 upkeep money!

AJG - that reminds me of a time when a feral cat snuck into my bandroom and dropped a bomb right under the chair of one of my alto sax players. Some speculated that the animal was trying to send a message. Or it could have been just a coincidence. We may never know, but the student who sat in that chair and "played" alto sax is still to this day the worst of all time. The sounds that emanated from the bell of his horn could have made a train take a dirt road.
