Directed to 968Forums
#1

I'm Gary, I reside in Arizona and have a slew of Porsches, mostly 944's. I do have a couple of 968's though, a 93 6 speed Coupe and a 94 tiptronic Coupe. A post on 944online directed me to this forum. I could not believe my eyes when I read "CLUTCH REPLACEMENT WITHOUT REMOVING THE DRIVE LINE" the posting member linked me to here. I registered and hoped to gain access to all the 968 information from other 968 enthusiast. Now, I must earn my way into the forum section. For the life of me I can't figure a way of clutch replacement without dropping the exhaust, transmission, torque tube, bell housing and such - I guess I'm a doubting Thomas, but I sure have an open mind for easier methods of caring for this breed of Porsches. I've done several clutch jobs on our manual cars and a flex coupler on our tiptronic - involoved jobs to say the least. I hope to enjoy this forum in the future as I post my way towards addict or one of those forum earmarks. Hi, from he warming up West.

First of all welcome, glad you found your way to our little corner of the web.

Regarding the clutch replacement. That information (not having to tear the whole drive train apart) is specific to the 968 and is not true regarding the 944, one of the namy improvements of the 968 over the 944.

Feel free to look around, get to know us and ask some questions.

It takes about 5 posts to have full access to everything, by then we should be old friends <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Enjoy,

Jay

Welcome! And it is indeed possible to remove the clutch through the opening in the bell housing. Not exactly a fun job, but it has to be much simpler than what you have to go through on a 944. Once you have access to the forums, do a search; Eric_K did a nice write-up of the procedure, which pretty much explains everything.

Welcome! Your clutch is a great example of the info available on this Forum. Lots of members have "been there, done that". Enjoy!
