Digital Ambient Temperature Gage
#21

I'm probably doing this exact chore on a customer car next week(end). I can do up a DIY or at least take some photos as I go.

I went to Sunset Porsche today and they told me that in order to remove the long plastic cover strip. I first have to remove the small heater control cover just to the left of the long strip. Behind the heater cover is a screw which holds the long strip onto the dash. Then I would have access to get out the ambient temp guage. But the problem still is is the fact that the L.e.d.s are not glowing bright anymore. So I think the guage is no good. It works but is not bright. either with the lights on or off I may add, it is the same brightness level.

william...you probably just need a new bulb. My Coupe exhibited the same symptom and a new bulb took care of it. In addition to the left hand side screws, there are 2 right hand side screws and I believe one or two in the right end where it wraps around.

I'm probably doing this THIS weekend, not next, so I'll hopefully get a few pics.

Great Darryl those photos would be a great help for us novice repair guys. I have not really got into the repair thing myself mostly out of fear of breaking something that can not be replaced.

@DaveN, I think there are a lot more screws than that. One on the right far end, two under the blank plate on the right, the one you reference inside the air inlet, and perhaps two on the far left, under the air control levers/panel.

This covers more than just the trim strip, but it's all in there http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-24.htm

Yep, either 6 or 8 screws in total. The Clark's Garage link above is a good one and shows the bulk of it.

Tamathumper - your right, I was just pointing out the hidden one so the grille didn't get busted, the rest are obvious <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
