I can't find any other companies who make custom diecast cars ( there are a few that pop up on search, but once you dig into the details, the only custom aspect is pretty much the color, painted on logos, etc.. as long the car make and model itself is already in their "stock" selection.. ) so if you guys know of any outfit that can and is willing to do this, count me in but only for a coupe and it has to be at the very least 1:18, preferably bigger. I sent an inquiry to www.classiccarlectables.com.au and received response that they are not interested in making a Porsche 1:18 model. Too bad, since their website looked like they might be the right company.



I had previously sent an inquiry to Minichamps about building a 968 RS version which would probably be not that difficult since they could use the existing 968 model as a basemodel. They indicated they have referred my request to their design engineers for possible building. No word yet.



To me, the best option would be for Autoart to build the 968 model, since they have build a 1:18 version of both the 924 and the 944.



Any other companies out there that might be interested in building a 1:18 version of the 968?

I have also a lot of interest in 1:18 model. I prefer a coupe, white 968CS, with the MO30 kit in it, maybe black rims! (I really do want a model of my own car. )



Given thats not too realistic, if something gets going, I am very intested. Thanks

Lol, it looks like a 1:1 scale model may be the only feasible solution.... and probably cheaper too ;-) Sure, you can' t display it on top of a desk, but at least everyone can get it in their favorite color and style.. :-)

Apex Replica's here in Australia is starting to make 1:18 resin models. To me, not as good as a diecast, but much lower tooling investment costs.

Maybe worth a phone call just to see if a resin 968 production would be feasible ? I imagine they could quickly figure out what the minimum number of models, approximate price, would make it worth their while.. I'd prefer the 1:12 scale, but 1:18 is fine also.

What's wrong with all these companies ?! One of the most beautiful cars of all time and it's completely ignored. Sure they may not see a sufficiently justifiable market potential for the 968 based on production numbers but they make models of even rarer vehicles, although I suppose the majority of those are icons of automotive history and demand for them comes from all walks of life regardless of what people own and drive.. sigh....

They normally gauge levels of interest from hobby stores that would stock the model and in some cases pre-orders from collectors. Where a mould has already been made and it is simply a colour change or decals - it simply makes the production run longer. Resin models do not need as many orders to be viable, but they would need some form of commitment prior to going ahead.



Autoart made a 1:18 Porsche 944 Turbo last year, so the tooling would not be that much dissimilar, but they make a huge number of models.



A lot of the 1:43 models now are resin.

What's your opinion on the quality differences between manufacturers? Eg, Autoart is generally more expensive than Maisto or Bburago. Then you have Norex which seems to sit in the middle. The you have minichamps which also makes some nice quality model.



And then there is Exoto which seem to make very expensive products.



Do you only buy from particular manufacturers?

Depends on what is available, but there are four main model makers that I have bought from;



Exoto - as per above - expensive, but good detail (probably only CMC is better - but more expensive again)

Autoart - good level of detail and price

Biante - which is a retailler of Autoart and most of the models branded by Biante are made under the Autoart banner - but these are predominately Australian cars (road cars, Touring Cars and V8 Supercars)

Classiccarlectables - to me better detail and quality than Biante and better boxed - same as for Biante - almost all are Australian cars.



Some of the later Norev models are good, because they are the only ones making them (997 GT3 RS, Turbo, etc).
