Haven't been lurking for a while so didn't see this thread. Yes, 325 HP at rear wheels normally aspirated is do able. We have been doing for 3 or 4 years running GT2 in SCCA. 3 liter block, 968 head, custom cams, solid lifters, dry sump, etc. Intake is 55DCOE webers on custom manifolds. We are looking at doing ITBs with fuel injection for a friendlier power curve. Bearing life is an issue. Even modified stock crank doesn't oil well over 8000 rpm.
Is this in a 944 body? If so I've heard of this car. What area do you race in?

Yes, 944 body but wide fenders, all glass except top, tube chassis. Except for Topeka in 06 kept the races pretty close to home: Mid Ohio, Beaver Run, Nelson Ledges, Gingerman. We did campaign he car in 07 because the driver changed jobs and moved. I'm getting the car ready now to tow to VIR weekend Apr 11 & 12. All SCCA stuff.

Greetings,

This is all very fascinating and I am very interested since I am considering the normally aspirated route vs the turbo conversion. I am over the 100,000 mark and know that the engine will have to be tended to sooner than later. Initially, I was going to go with the 16v turbo conversion but lately I have been thinking of boring out the stock engine so that it would be around 3.2L. I live in Arizona, so, temperatures are always an issue and the turbo's can be very hard to deal with when its a 120 degrees outside.

Do you think the ITB's on a bored engine of this size would be do able on a mixed street/track application? Obviously, I realize that it is going to be a combination of tuning, cams, intake, exhaust, etc. but what other improvements would/should be considered for a conversion of this sort? Also, could you reasonably (say $15,000) reach the 300hp route in a maintainable engine that has a fairly decent shelf life? How many people have actually done this with the 968? Thanks!
