So in researching engines for my future project car, I've been playing around with desktop dyno, changing things like cam timing, and intake, exhaust, etc, and how they affect power in the engine. For the most part it gives me good ballpark figures, assuming accurate data.
They have a bunch of preset blocks in the software, one of which is the Porsche 3L, but I need to enter in all data myself (type of head, cam timing, etc). Surprisingly information about this engine is hard to track down. I managed to find info about valve duration and valve lift (intake 11.2mm, exhaust 10.11mm @ 0.05"). Valve diameters are a bit of a mystery heh, does anyone have detailed info about this engine? I wouldn't mind plugging everything in and seeing how it all matches up. For now having entered all the available information and it looks similar to the 944 S2 (with about 10HP less), obviously it can't really account for things like resonance intake. But its close enough.
I can see how software like this really takes the guess work out of tuning a new engine. Sure it's not perfect (and there are other newer versions available too), but the fact that you can run 600,000 dyno runs in 10 minutes, changing IVO/IVC/EVO/EVC angles by 1 degree increments to give you a best torque setup is just awesome [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]
I think the thing that I'm curious most about is the relation between bore, stroke, number of cylinders, power and RPM. And how, say, a 3L 4 banger compares to a 3L 6 banger vs a 3L 8 banger.
