Delete Options
#1

hi

I want to lighten my car, for the Scca autox series. this means that

the only options that I can remove are the ones that I would have been

able to have removed on the factory build sheet. As if I wanted a Hardtop

instead of the standard sunroof could I have ordered it that way.

the Scca rules require that I run with the options that were available from

the factory. This means that if I update to the Mo30 suspension that I have

to do everything that would have been delivered on the car from the factory

if it was ordered that way. No picking only the good parts and not the bad.

If I updated the car to a performance option and it said that I had to change my door panel, then to be legal I would have to change them.

Does any one Know If the Sunroof could be Deleted, same for the A/C and rear wiper. if Porsche delivered just one car this way then I can do it.

Right Know the Race weight is right at 2900 lbs with the fuel light on. I'm looking

to get deep into the 2800 lbs.

Does it have to be a U.S. spec car? Can you go the Club Sport route that was only available in Europe.

I know the rear logo was a delete option. That should be good for a couple of ounces!

have you checked the gcr yet to see what the minimum weight for the class is?

not sure what you've yanked, but i presume you have already yanked the rear seats, spare, compressor, jack, tools and such

i also presume the kinesis wheels are the 3 piece ones - they are the lightest ones you can get

if you pull the carpet, removed the glue, foam and insulation and relay the carpet you would pull about 25lbs

you can yank stuff like the glove box liner and inside door pieces, and the wood floorboard under the carpet over the dme plate, that's good for another 4

stripping the doors and converting to mechanical windows and deleting the stereo is good for another 20

the rear wiper is good for a couple

changing the seats is serious weight loss

if you don't already have a minimum weight problem, after that, i think you're pretty stuck without changing class due to modification

I've never heard of a 968 without a sunroof. To the best of my knowledge, even the CS had one. I believe the CS also came with AC Delete, crank windows, no rear seats and less sound proofing.

As for suspension, you can duplicate the M030 but it's expensive. It's cheaper to upgrade to something superior in some ways but it won't meet the required specs. Bummer.

the Solo rule book does not use minimum wight for the Stock classes as the car has to run as it was available for delivery to the dealership.

not sure what you've yanked, but i presume you have already yanked the rear seats, spare, compressor, jack, tools and such .

all but the seat they have to stay.

i also presume the kinesis wheels are the 3 piece ones - they are the lightest ones you can get .

yeah the frons are 17.5 lbs and the rear are 19lbs

if you pull the carpet, removed the glue, foam and insulation and relay the carpet you would pull about 25lbs

would love to but it would be illegal.

you can yank stuff like the glove box liner and inside door pieces, and the wood floorboard under the carpet over the dme plate, that's good for another 4

stripping the doors and converting to mechanical windows and deleting the stereo is good for another 20

was this a factory delete option.

the rear wiper is good for a couple

only if it was a delete option from Porsche.

changing the seats is serious weight loss .

thes too have to be Stock.

if you don't already have a minimum weight problem, after that, i think you're pretty stuck without changing class due to modification

I'm pretty much stuck with running the car as delivered to the dealer with the

following changes allowed. any wheel along as it's offset is within a 1/4", any front swaybar and any double adjustable shock and any exhaust cat-back.

all other parts and options are as delivered to a USA dealer.

I lurk on the other forums. and Flash I have to Say you Know your Stuff good

job on the chips. I can't change mine and run in the Stock class but that is the rules.

thanks

most of the deletions can be handled under the club sport options - you could have ordered the car that way, option by option, even here, though the "package" was not offered here

that means, you can strip the carpet crap, delete the rear seats, rear wiper, stereo, and power windows and go with cranks - it also means you can install the club sport seats which are each 25lbs lighter than the stock ones

by the way - be glad you aren't running in RS - i was looking at the rules and it says that our car must weigh at least 1.2 lbs per cc, plus 180lbs - that would make it 3780 as raced

Flash, can that be correct? Is that a class into which a 968 could realisitically be placed? That is HEAVY!!!

You should pick up the 968 road test book. It has a lot of great period 968 reviews and spell out specifically what the differences were in the new editions including the ones from Europe. The book is made by brooklands.

I think the only 968's that were standard without sunroofs were the few (4 of 'em I think) Turbo-RS models...

Now mine, also, will be part of that illustrious group this coming Spring!

Clubsports were available without sunroofs. I don't know if that was an option available in the US though.

How would I go about getting the manual window crank set up for my car?

Where can I order that stuff? Or, should I go to a dismantler and yank stuff out of a 924?

i would grab doors off a 924 (if they are a match) and fit them intact - they are more likely to have less bracing and crap inside and would probably be a lot cheaper - even if the outside contour was not an exactl match, you could remove the outer skin and replace it with fiberglass

or you could just delete the windows all together

Indeed they were, but it was a very rare option. I have only seen one or two in the UK without sunroofs though.

on the subject of sunroofs, ron swears that his car is stiffer feeling with the sunroof in place than it is with it removed - anybody else have this sensation? it seems unlikely since it doesn't really lock down anywhere, though it does fit tightly in the area

just curious

Maybe it is because with the sunroof in, the roof creaks a lot when cornering (mine does on my stiffer Sport anyway) and when it isn't there, you don't have the audible sensation of the body trying to flex - so the car feeling stiffer with the roof in is just a sensory illusion?
