Cruise control shuts off when i turn on driving lights
#1

This happens 100% of the time.  Cruise control works great (such as it is-- the 968 is kinda strange with the cruise control configuration).  As soon as i turn on the driving lights it shuts off.  I checked to see if there was some strange cross wiring with a brake light, but nothing.  Any ideas?

Worse comes to worse, I will just live with it, sine i rarely use cruise control, but i like everything working correctly

What are you using for "driving lights"? if you are turning the parking lights on and then activating the fog lights as "driving lights" it is my understanding that the cruise control will not work if any light bulb is defective, including the high mounted 3rd light. If you have the relay that turns the fog lights on when the ignition is on then this, of course, isn't the answer, but your post says that you "turn on" the driving lights.

If I turn on any light- turn the light 'knob' one click to the right, cruise control shuts off, doesn't matter if fog lights are or on not-- so let me rephrase to say that when I turn the lightning control knob one click to the right, it shuts off the cruise control.  I will check all the brake lights and see if that is a potential clue.

I think that you may have a burned out brake light bulb, including any of the one is the 3rd light.

Wow, even as far back as the jurassic era when our cars were built, they had these interconnected systems where a defect in one component affects other " unrelated " functions ?! Sheesh, I thought we would have missed ( fortunately ) all of this artificial intelligence nonsense which afflicts modern cars and does the thinking for the driver, taking over control of the car.

Good guess, I would also suggest that your ignition switch may be part of the problem. There is a thread on here about the strange issues that my car (and others) were experiencing due to partial failure of the switch. There are also tips for changing the switch in the thread.

The capacitors dry out in the ECU as well, I have had one car just keep on accelerating when the cruise was engaged

New set of caps soldered in fixed that
