I went to Paris with my wife and daughter for the weekend to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. I saw a couple of 996s, 997s and Caymans, but no 968s or any old Porsches for that matter.

Hey Chris,

That sounds like my dream job. Good luck with your studies and harvest this year. It has been a good year for the east coast wines for a change. I will have to look you up when I am out in your neck of the woods ! take care

Sailing to Catalina

We sailed out to Catalina Island. This was last weekend. 26 miles, lots of wind so it only took 2 hours to get there. We took all of our gear and camped on the beach for two days, sailing to Two Harbors for the afternoon (that's what the footage is from). The boat is averaging 16-18 mph in the video, it's a Hobie 18SX I've had for years, I still think it is the best beach cat for what I love to do.

I'm going again in October for Buccaneer Day, an excuse to drink where everyone dresses up like pirates. I think I'm going to strap a pony keg to the Catamaran.

Hey Phil,

Great video! At least you didn't dump it like I always did with my old Prindle. But I bet that was just a terrific time.

Thanks guys, it is a handful in that much wind, but the water was cold so I had incentive to keep it right side up!

Awesome vid Phil ! You make freezing your arse off almost look fun.

Last wkend I drove my kid back to school and toured AZ for 3 days. I have to admit that once you get past the brutal, endless heat, AZ has some of the most beautiful natural areas that I have ever seen. Mountains, canyons, dams, caves, and all sorts of interesting things. We are already planning our next trip to that wonderful state - this time when the weather is a bit more accomodating.

Took a nice road trip with the 968 up to Portland, Maine over the weekend. The weather was amazing. Portland is a big food lovers town. I ate lobster until I couldn't eat it anymore. Lot's of night life. The comedy connection was a blast. Does anyone remember Bob Nelson and his famous football skit ?

I was swapping out the alternator on my '94 last week when I discovered 2+ inches of bare wire and crumbling plastic insulation on the alternator-starter cable. If in moving that cable around, you hear noises like you were squeezing a bag of corn chips, and your hand and garage floor are full of black plastic shards, you might want to think about doing what I started this weekend, namely installing Robby's cable kit.

this is becoming a common problem now - everyone should be taking a look at this - this is EXACTLY what makes the car start itself

Would that be more of a problem in warmer climate regions?
When I changed my starter a few months back the cable insulation was still very pliable and no evidence of cracking.
The car has been in the Pacific Northwest for the past ten years and must have been parked inside all of it's life because the dash is like new still.

Langley - I just did my waterpump and had to remove the starter. Nice flexible black insulation so it must be the weather - cold and damp is the key

Heat kills right? I would guess that insulation drys up due to engine heat and ambient temps/conditions. But the diff between say Michigan and Phila is likely immaterial, whereas the diff between Portland and Phoenix would not be, assuming cars are outside.

Having said that I also imagine that the primary cause of this is engine heat over time. As I recall in another thread flash tells us about individual wire insulation inside the outer cable insulation that was bad, even though the outside insulation looked good - somewhere in those 14000+ posts. Moral of story is that the electrical cables are getting to their 'sell by' dates.

Was out fly fishing the Southfork of the Snake in Swan Valley Idaho - returned to find that I was still over 2 weeks out from starting harvest - and thought ( Let's see, I'm caught up on everything at the winery and the fishing was spectacular on the Southfork - Hang out and wait for the grapes or head out to fish for another week? - that was a no brainer! Got back Tuesday and found that Santa had delivered my SC, so dropped my car off today at Tillman's Engineering to have it installed as well as a bunch of stuff from RSB. Can't wait to take it for a spin!

After my oil change a few weeks ago, I was horiified by the mess under the engine from previous oil changes and a leaking PS pipe. I left the under trays off with the intention to tighten the hose clamp and do a 'little' clean up. Sunday I jacked the car up and slid under the car armed with a toothbrush, AutoGlym's engin cleaner and a hosepipe. Three hours later, it was clean from radiator to starter. I was soaking wet, filthy, a few cuts and a few sore muscles, but very satisfied to see clean aluminium parts

Next session I'll focus on the front suspension, then later the rear suspension and trans.

Labor day weekend in Bucks County. Took the car with new LSD and full tan of premium on a backroads run to Frenchtown, NJ for Riverfest. Met the author of Eat, Love Pray (a thrill for the wife). Drove back down Route32 (one of Fodder's 10 best drives in America) through New Hope and grilled meat with good friends. 77 and sunny, an absolutely perfect day.
