I have not seen a CV plate on a 968, but it certainly seems that it would qualify.

Hello - I have done the collector vehicle registration in NJ for my 968 race car. Requirements are a collector insurance policy, miles cannot exceed 3,000 annually and you must have the roadgoing equipment i.e. headlights, turn signals etc. so the cops will not pull you over.
You will need to file some paperwork about the number of cars built etc. to prove its a collector - I had no problems with this. Call the state DMV in Trenton because your local DMV will be clueless. Trenton will send you the appropriate paperwork.
I spoke to the men at the Randolph inspection station - they do not care if the car has a full roll cage in it or not, race exhaust - they only care about the miles. Miles under 3,000 annually - you get a new inspection sticker. However, the cops might care...I figure if I drove the race car on the street I would be ticketed for no horn - that's the only thing not roadworthy. I've got a set of street wheels and tires and the exhaust is really quiet for a race car.
I have this so I can drive my car down the road to see how she runs before I load up for the track and rarely do it. I live in the country so no big deal anyway but I'd like to avoid getting my car impounded. The collector policy will cover me if its stolen but likley not much else. Cost of the policy for a year is $250.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Hi Ben,
Thanks for the info. I have the application from motorvehicles which basically says the same thing. Did you send a letter in from the register with the application ? or did you just write your own letter ? I think I might need that letter from the register to show the limited production of the car. It says in the application to send a letter from the manufacturer or car club, organization to verify. I already have American Collectors Insurance policy. Are you my Boonton Twp neighbor ? Thanks Rico<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hi Rico - that would be me your neighbor :-)
I pulled a vehicle production report off the web and used that as my proof the car was collectable. Wikipedia might have it.
The DMV recently changed up policy to include production reports - too many people claiming beatup Hondas as collector cars to bypass inspection.
The guys at the DMV in Trenton were really helpful - got my request back in 30 days.
