Replaced the rubber cap for the hole in the bellhousing
#1

When I was under my car replacing the starter a few weeks ago, I noticed that there is a ~1-1/4" hole in the bellhousing near the starter which exposes the clutch fork. Thinking this can't be right, I confirmed on this forum that there should indeed be a cap to fill this hole. I went ahead and ordered the cap from my local dealer, and installed in yesterday. The part is No. 93111617700, costs $6.01, and it's very simple to install. Just jack up the car (the left side would be preferable, but because of how my car is situated in the garage, the right side is much more accessable, and it works just fine, though the higher you can lift it, the better), crawl under, and press it into the hole. It's a soft rubber cap, and fits nice and snugly. One less thing to worry about now.

I did just that ..about two months ago. Have no idea how long the car has been without it, for all I know could have been since I bought it, I never paid attention to that, nor has my mechanic mentioned anything . .until Flash was under the car and noticed it.

One of my favorite topics. Use a bit of silicone to hold it in place. Lubricate the clutch fork bearings often.

while you can probably help bearings that have not been serviced by squirting something in there, you can't really lube the bearings without removing the fork - they are sandwiched in and inaccessible

anything you can squirt in there will only dissolve the grease, and possibly contaminate the clutch disk - once the bearings have been replaced and properly greased with a high moly content or very heavy waterproof grease, do NOT squirt anything in there

but the tip on the dab of RTV to hold the cap in place is a very good one

Yes, this does sound like a good idea.

...and don't forget a jack stand, old rim, something to put under there before you crawl under
